More food with fewer calories is generally better for weight loss because lower-calorie foods will usually be lower in fat and sometimes sugars, as well, and closer to natural form - in other words, like vegetables and fruits, and un-processed foods. Eating more for fewer calories is also better to keep your metabolism more active, whereas, if you eat less often, your metabolism thinks your starving and slows down, so you lose less weight. Eating foods with fewer calories is also better for your sugar levels, so you don't risk spiking them, which can lead to diabetes, if you're overweight, or complications of it, if you're already diabetic.

Depends on what you're eating. If you'd rather eat chips instead of carrot, then i will have to go with fewer calories, but if you plan on eating jello instead of freash peach or banana, then you should probably go with fruit even if it's higher in calories than jello.
