a born again Christian is just a term that people use as an illustration. the picture they are trying to represent is that when you accept Jesus as your Lord and savior, you make a commitment ot try and follow Him as much as possible, so in a sense you are "dying" as a sinner without forgiveness, and being "born again" as a new believer that should try to live a different (better) life, because you have realized how much God did for you.

A "born again" Christian is an evangelical Christian who thinks that after they "accept Jesus", it somehow makes them a new person. They are really into the idea that there is flesh, which is bad, and spirit, which is good. The first birth (the one where you come out of your mother), is being born into the flesh. And as a little innocent infant, you are vile and evil because of your taint of "original sin". Therefore, you have to go through some ritual to be "born in the spirit", which involves much crying in front of a cross and telling "Jesus" how vile and evil you are. Then Jesus touches you with his magic wand and makes you all better. (Ok. I made up the bit about the wand)

Christians believe that man was originally spiritually and physically alive; able to commune with God. When mankind sinned, he died spiritually and lost that communion. Being born again means to be reborn of the spirit and have our fellowship with God restored. This is only done by having the sin that blocks us from God removed. This is only done by trusting in the one and only worthy payment of those sins; the shed blood of Jesus Christ.
