Good question. Reasonably, God has always been King of the universe. Reasonably, people continued to pray to God. Reasonably, therefore, Jesus is not God Almighty.

They prayed to the same "person" that Jesus did after He came out of the womb, God the Father.
Just as man is a three-fold being with "parts" called the body, the soul and the spirit (See Genesis 2:7), so God is a three-fold being called the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit (See Matthew 28:19). Each of the parts of "you"are just as much "you" as any of the others. Your body is as much you as your mind or your spirit.
Each works and has authority in a different realm. For example, the body has abilities in the physical realm, while the mind has abilities in the mental realm. And it is possible for your body to be one place, and your mind somewhere else. (Happens all the time when I am at work - LOL).
Same with God. Each "part" of Him operates in a different realm doing different things. The Father operates in the heavenly, or spiritual realm. While the Son, Jesus, came and operated in the physical realm. When Jesus was on earth, the Father still resided in heaven doing His part of the work from there. The Holy Spirit works in the heart realm, within believers bringing the New Birth, and acting as their Guide, Comforter, Strength and so much more.
If the Holy Spirit is within you, does that mean God the Father is not longer in heaven? Or that Jesus does not hear or answer prayers? I have never heard anyone suggest that. People recognize that God can be everywhere and everything in the spirit realm. But as soon as you move Jesus into the physical, people seem to forget that He was still God, everywhere and everything. They want to impose physical limitations on Him. Read the New Testament again and you will see that He did many things that defied physical limitations.
So who was running the universe? God the Father, same as always. He was hearing and answers prayers, but so where the Holy Spirit and Jesus. What would you call the act of crying out to Jesus for healing or forgiveness, if it was not prayer? And he heard and answered them.

Before Jesus was born, there was God the Father. Jesus is an extension of God the Father. It is very hard to understand because it is a mystery. It's like shall we say that God had 3 forms; the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit but actually he is only one. This is called the Divine Mystery. Even for Christians it is hard for us to understand but we believe. It is hard to grasp like in any other mystery. So God ruled the universe. This is the God of Moses who people pray to.

Christianity is unique in that God is one but like 3 parts (personalities). God the Father, God the Son (Jesus), and God the Holy Spirit. At that time, I believe the Jews would have prayed to Jehovah God (the Father), because they were still waiting for Messiah.

Yes, besides the fact of the Trinity that has already been stated, God is beyond time and space. To put in in terms of our linear space-time experience, even if God the Son chose to, He could know all our prayers before He was in Mary's womb and cause His answers to take effect at the proper time, but I think it is more accurate to say that He is just beyond time all together.

God Rules EVERYTHING, even while Jesus was in the womb, & when Jesus was born he said I can NOT do anything unless the Father shows me or tells me to.

Don't be silly, Mary was not pregnant for nine months. Do you think an all powerful being would waste that much time in some woman's belly when he was able to fart the universe into existance in six days. I'll bet the whole process took less than six hours and gave rise to the saying, "Spare the rod, spoil the child".

Then as now, people prayed to whom they believed was/is God.
Jesus was 33 yrs old before he began revealing his true identity although John the Baptist fortold of his coming long before Jesus was sent down to the human woman. Jesus told to pray in his name not to him.

God is infinity. Jesus was here on earth but that didn't mean there was no God in heaven. He is in us as the Holy spirit all across the globe yet he is there in Heaven.
He is the great fountain of life

Umm, honey, no one prayed to Jesus before He began His ministry. Before that they all prayed to God, and some of us still do!
