If you just had a local anaesthetic you can drive straight away, the swelling goes down after about 48 hours. But try to avoid drinking alcohol and smoking for at least 24 hours as this could delay healing. If you are still numb don't eat until the numbness wears off and if you drink make sure its either cold or luke warm. If you've had a general anaesthetic don't drive for 24 hours. With either take a few pain killers before the numbness wears off so they start to take affect. Good luck, you'll feel back to normal in a few days.

It's different for each person. First & foremost, following your doctor's directions. Don't smoke or drink through a straw as this can irritate your mouth. Use ice packs 20 minutes on and 20 minutes off during your waking hours to help with swelling. As long as you're taking any medication for pain - DON'T drive. Even if you feel ok, you may be more impaired than you think, take advantage of family & friends playing driver for you for a few days. As far as eating goes, give it a couple of days on liquids then switch to soft foods for a couple more days until you feel like eating normal food again. Rinsing you mouth with a warm saltwater solution will help keep the area clean until you can use a regular mouthwash again. Take care & good luck.

You can drive as soon as the gas wears off. Although you may not feel like it for a day. You can eat liquids (not hot) a couple hours after. I know some people that were eating french fries that night! The swelling depends on your body, I was feeling horrible for weeks after due to some complications but my husband was in and out in 20 minutes and back to normal that night.

Hi David. I had mine out during regular dentist appointments with just an extra shot of Novocaine. I came home from college on break with a cleaning appointment. The dentist removed one bottom wisdom tooth that same afternoon. The day before leaving to go back to school, he removed the other bottom wisdom tooth. On my next break home, he did the same with the upper wisdom teeth. One as soon as I got back and the other the day before I left to go back to school. Having the uppers done was easier than the bottoms. Not sure if this helps you or not, but don't worry, it's nothing like as complicated or traumatizing as some people would have you to believe.

I suppose it depends on the type of anaesthesia you had. With a local I would have thought virtually straight away ( if there is no pain, bleeding etc..) if you had a general anaesthetic I'd suggest leaving driving for at least 24 hours.

Important reminder- don't drink through a straw or smoke for at least 3 days after your teeth are removed. Dry socket is something I wouldn't wish on my worst enemy. Horrible pain and necessary to have the tooth socket "packed".

If you had them extracted with just a local anesthetic you can do everything you would normally. Eat away from the wound and after eating/drinking wash your mouth with warm salty water to help heal the socket. Hope this helps.
