My budgie moults many times a year but it is normal. To help your budgie through the process, give it egg powder which can be purchased from most pet shops. The vet tells you to mix it with water and physically feed your budgie it, but we find its much easier and less stressful to put it dry into the budgies food pot and mix it in. He actually can't get enough of it now.

most inside pets (birds, dogs, birds, etc.) will go through periods where they do shed or moult as the case maybe... it's due to the variations in temperature. My Cockatiel moults a lot too, and the vet said that this is normal, just make sure that your budgie doesn't start getting balt patches.... if this starts to happen, you might have a totally different problem.... it may have mites.

Perhaps where you have the birdcage is experiencing more heat than normal from the heater or furnace - try moving the cage. Also, molting this time of year tells you the bird is complaining about something...too hot, too much fan, needs extra or different food, someone in the house they don't like.

yes, they are getting rid of their old feather and bringing in new ones for preparation of winter. I've had parakeets and parrots since I was in high school and this is common in all of them. To help things move along, if they are finger trained or I should say hand fed then when your play with him next time kind massage his neck and I don't want to say pinch but that's kind what it is where you pop the new feathers in on their skin around their neck. Make sure you are not hurting him, usually this makes your bird feel good and the new feathers pop out
