First of all, you need to get your information directly from the source. This practice of asking others what a person said is purely hearsay and gossiping -- plus it defeats the purpose of communication in the interpersonal relationship.
Being the 'third person' implies that you have another who occupies a closer position to you than he does.
It doesn't have to be bad; but your communication skills could use a little work if this person occupies any significant space in your heart.

well, i prefer to talk to him first than having the message passed by a "middle person" cause you'll never know,maybe he pu some things that the guy didnt really said.

Don't EVER ask a guy if their friend likes you. If they think you should know, they'll tell you. Seriously, don't be that girl. Just ask the guy you like...it's waaayyy easier...and way less humiliating, believe it or not.
