I know candles are used in your faith. Do different colors mean different things?

Yes, many of us use candles, in our version of "prayer"; i.e. magic. And different colors do mean different things.

But, first, there aren't any hard and fast rules, and second, it's not like the color of the candle has any juju of it's own; the colors are used because of either cultural associations (like green with abundance) or personal associations (I use pink for healing, because pink is the color of healthy flesh [not skin, flesh]).

Black absorbs heat - therefore it is used to absorb other things - negative things.

Green, being the color of plant growth, is associated with abundance, so it's used for that

Red has a long association with strong emotions, so it's used for that (are you angry? do you want to get rid of your anger? Use a red candle to represent that, and black to absorb it)

Blue has long associations with calmness, with the ocean (and therefore the unconscious) so it may be used for dream work or developing intuition

And so on.

Color has a profound influence on people; some colors lift our spirits and some are contemplative, and some are energizing.

And people react in different ways to colors, which is why there are no hard-and-fast rules; what is important is to tap into associations, either general or personal, and use those associations to reinforce for yourself what you are doing.

Humans are symbol-manipulating animals. Using the symbol-set of color is a way to bypass the left brain and speak directly with the right brain, which is the seat of creativity and intuition. The right brain speaks in symbols rather than words.

I'm not a Wiccan but candles are used in many different neo-pagan faiths and magical systems.

About half-way down the page the essay talks about some of the possible meanings for various candle colors. As others have said, nothing is etched in stone--people have different reactions and associations to colors.

Yes. Green is used for prosperity, blue is used for peace, purple is used to heighten psychic awareness or intuition, etc. Far too many colors and meanings to list here. Thanks!

Bright blessings!

Yes but the rules are not etched in stone. Sometimes instinct instead of rules tells you what is right. Blessed Be.
