Well, as you cited, the greatest commandment is to love God with our whole heart, soul, mind, body and strength. There can only be one "greatest" commandment. Christ then follows this up with the second commandment: to love neighbor as self. Christ teaches us at Matthew 22:40: "On these two commandments the whole Law hangs and the Prophets." There is your comprehensive list of the type of life we should lead. For Christ meant that if you keep these two commandments, you will lead the life that is righteous in God's eyes. The Bible is not a list of do's and don'ts but rather a set of godly principles.
To love God as commanded above then means to obey his Son whom he has placed as head of the Christian congregation. How? Well, what did Christ command his followers to do at Matthew 28:18-20? How did he describe his followers at John 17:16? What attitude are we to have according to James 4:4? And how did he himself manifest "love for neighbor" according to Luke 4:43?
Clearly, obeying those two commandments is quite an involved matter. A study of the Bible in its entirety reveals the above attitudes that Christians must display as well as the activities in which Christians should be involved. But only by a study of the Bible in its entirety will a person learn these things. That is why Christ said that everlasting life was dependent upon taking in knowledge. See John 17:3.

The greatest commandments in the Bible to follow tend to be those that were more widely recognized as good things to do. The "10 Commandments" tend to be a bit trite and the punishments a bit harsh. There are only a few that offer good advice, if taken in a general way. The best "commandment" in the Bible is the one that seems to be a general rule in the animal kingdom (except when hunting), which is the Golden Rule. In the animal kingdom, it tends to be more like "Live and let live". Of course, like in the animal kingdom, including the human kingdom, this is augmented by other rules, such as "protect your territory" and "establish your place in society", i.e. competition.

Jesus summarized all 10 of the commandments in those two. If you look at the way the 10 commandments are originally detailed it is categorized into two areas. Our relationship with God and relationship with others. If we were to actually do the ones Jesus commanded, there would be no need to get detailed about what is 3rd, 4th, 5th etc.
Think about it always putting God first and doing what was pleasing to him and then treating everyone with the same respect we would like to have for ourselves. What would the world be like today? I doubt we would have as many issues with murder, rape, theft, war and so on.
Hope this helps!

The greatest and most important commnadment is to believe in the Lord Jesus Christ that you may be saved - John 3:16 Without obeying this scripture you will be lost in all eternity and not enter the kingdom of heaven. If you as New Covenant Christians do the works of the law you are under the curse of the law - Gal 3:10

properly, in case you'll quote Jesus for this, then you ought to also bypass ahead and browse each and every thing else that Jesus suggested. He suggested that the regulation became given to be our schoolmaster, to reveal us what we did not comprehend and to reveal us how a techniques short of the respect of God we got here. The regulation became to urge us onward to accepting Christ purely so we'd attain perfection contained in the right. The Mosaic regulation became given to who? Yeah, it really is perfect. Who became the regulation of Grace given to? So, i'm at the moment residing lower than the regulation of grace it really is a better established than the Mosaic regulation became to the Hebrews. do no longer quote the former testomony, that's been superceded by the hot testomony. inspite of the actuality that is written in the OT should be finished understood by what's written contained in the NT. Jesus Christ has suggested as a lot. a sparkling covenant forces the former one to bypass away and to be of no result upon those who fall lower than the hot covenant. Christians fall lower than a sparkling covenant. So provide up with the OT citations, ok? bypass study the completed Bible so that you'll benefit some knowledge and knowledge.

Jesus said ALL of Gods commandments fall under the 2 most important.
Think about it. If one loves God with all their heart they will sincerely follow him, honor him with their life, do what God wants. Jesus said, "If you love me you will obey my commandments." When one follows God they will be honest, trustworthy and generally joyful humans, even when trouble rises.
And to love your neighbor as yourself that covers everything else! If everyone shared the food, the resources in this world there would be no hunger, no wars, no rumors of wars ect.
Also bible says when you break one commandment you break then all. After these 2 the rest are "under" them. and if you follow these 2 you will follow the rest...ie honor father and mother, do not steal, do not murder, worship only God...see, if you do the 2 most important you WILL do all the rest.
God bless †

The "Ten Commandments" are in Exodus chapter 20. However Jesus sort of prioritized them for us when he said to Love God first, the to love your neighbor as you love yourself.
In following these two commandments, the rest naturally follow.

actually we are to follow them with the same sincerity. no sin takes precedence over another in god's eyes. however, if we adhere to the first two commandments, the rest of them are much easier to follow.
