Hi :)
The problem may be that your hair is long and the heat from the curlers isn't heating the whole length of hair enough.
I would suggest that you shampoo and condition your hair as usual, blast your hair with cold water before you get out the shower ( so it will close cuticles on the head ).
Heat your curlers for as long as you can and then section your hair into as many sections as you can, ( maybe a friend to help? ). Use a small spritz of hairspray before you put the curlers in, gently brush hairspray through so it doesn't go hard - then roll hair over the curler trying to keep hair tight and neatly on the roller. You may need to section your hair a bit more than usual so re-using the heat rollers in your hair may need to be an option.
Make sure your hair is tight on the rollers and go over the rollers with a hair dryer on a medium heat, I suggest this so the rest of the hair that isn't getting a lot of heat will and the curl will hold better [ do this for around 2 minutes] Immidientally after give your hair a good light spray of hair spray again make sure it is 30 cm away from head, If you have a cold setting on your hairdryer now is the time to use it to close the folicles on your head and set the style. Be careful when taking the rollers out, You want to make sure you are only using enough hairspray to hold the shape not make your hair tacky and stiff. Gently unroll your hair from heat roller and let drop naturally, start from the back and the work around to the front. You can use a pointy edged comb to seperate curls etc.
Now you can either spray hair with a shining serum and/or a hairspray to ensure maximum hold.
Sorry this is long but it has worked for me beautifully when my remington curlers weren't heating and holding my hair enough.
Goodluck!
I know i'm mentioning hair spray a lot!! But you can buy a light hold hair spray to help you with the first few times you use hairspray so your hair isn't hard. Then you could use a maximum hold for the final spray.

this is gonna sound weird..but it's what myf riend does though her hair is a litte wavy. She uses her STRAIGHNENER to curl her hair, she says that she puts the hair in the straightner and then turns it around and around ...or something like that! I have really straight hair too an seh said it wold work on mine but I guess she'll have to do it for me cuz i don't know what she's really talking about. But if u got spare time try it, it also looks nice to keep top part straight an then just curls at the bottom like ringlets looks cool!
Good luck, and yeah prob best to do it proffessionally..

Put in the curlers when your hair is wet, and keep them in for a few hours, until hair dries. You can use your hairdryer to try and boost the curls. And again, use tons and tons of hairspray!!!
And yes, it is possible to curl your hair with straighteners, although a good pair of tongs e.g. Babyliss Curl and Press will also do the trick!

wash and roller set your hair whilst it is still damp with a good setting lotion, either air dry your hair or use a bonnet dryer on a low - medium setting,
This will create long lasting curls as your hair will have dried into the shape of rollers and should last all day and possibly until the next time that you wash your hair.

i've got very straight and 2'6" hairs with light brown natural shade. i dont like to spoil my hairs with some harsh lotions. i curled my hairs for a wedding of friend using below tip. it worked straightforward. wanna be a little tricky? go with it.
i used electric heated curling rods of different sizes. bigger for inside smaller ones for front and upper hair layer. i used egg white diluted with water and applied just before taking strand to curling rod. dont apply on whole head already. donot preheat rod too much otherwise eggwhite white color will appear in curls. on medium heat clip full strand in rod, in a minute or two. take hair off the rod in shape of coil. instantly clip the curled roll of hair in a hairpin. similarly finish with rest of haris. wait an hour, take pins off the hairs and your hairs are ready for long hours. it doesnt smell but if you are smell conscious use any perfume (oil only) to camouflage.

The only other way to curl is to use a diffuser, if your hair is chin length, (a little shorter or a little longer), this works out really well, use mousse, and put the diffuser on low and crunch your hair as drying, this works best if you have even just a little body in your hair, then fix !!!!!!!! Hope this works for you !!!!!
