Well, we'd like to stop being sent over and over (some are deployed for their 3rd go around) but I think as long as once it's over with, people don't look back and say, "Oh that was stupid. Those lives were wasted. Iraq is still messed up and it's America's fault." As a soldier, I think this is the worst that could happen. That type of attitude is the most disheartening thing to me. If Iraqi people actually form their own government, and they can say on a person-to-person basis that the general population is happier and feels free, that would feel like a success to me.

Success is easy to say and hard to make come to pass.

If we do our jobs right we can leave and never have to come back.
If the missions are planned out right and carried out the way they were meant to, we will eventually be able to have a stable country here. We don't want our missing friends lives to have been spent in vain is probably the biggest thing for me.

We don't care if its 'Democratic'.... the people have been beaten down for the last thousand years by their own political/ military leaders and Imams. Many don't understand (or believe) that their voice actually means anything...

They already succeded. The main objectives were rid Iraq of Sadam, and set up a new government. Both of these things have been acomplished. The failure or seccess is now on the Iraqi peolpe, and they seem to be failing.

Leaving there when the job is complete. Give the Iraqi people the time they need to stabilize their government and develop effective police and military forces.

And at this point for all of the losers who have never been in the military to stop thinking that they know how we feel.

I totally agree with Ashley B. We just want people to support us and not put words into our mouths about how most of us want to leave and things of that nature...
A big success for me is to have people applauding me for serving and not putting me down when I get out.

they have already succeeded, they win battles of Will every day. they stand together and work with and train the Iraqi army, I'd say theyve already succeeded.

Getting home safely. The Grand Plans of Bush are of little interest to them. Getting home with as many of their buddies is the goal. And I hope they all reach it.
