There is no main cause of cancer. However things called Carcinogens will increase the risk of getting cancer. Carcinogens may be chemical e.g asbestos, physical e.g. radiation, or infectious e.g human papillo virus. There is also evidence to prove a familial link in certain cancers i.e high grade breast cancers and gene testing can be done for those deemed to be at risk.

We all have rogue genes called oncogenes in our bodies and the little blighters hang around just waiting for a trigger to start them off on the rampage. Could be something simple like an electric shock or an allergy or stomach upsets. But hey, you guys Cancer runs in my family on my Mother's side. I had Cancer in 1983 and survived. It's the most 'doomed' feeling in the world but you have to say 'ah, it's just another disease' and try to keep positive about it. Don't treat it like a voodoo spell and automatically think you are going to die. What you have to do is treat your body with respect and LISTEN to it. We live in an age where miracles happen every day. There is even a cure for some types of Leukaemia now, and I'm part of a study where they are using my blood for research. Cheer up, it may never happen. As Billy Connolly said - you may die of red bus disease!. Keep well.

I believe alot of things can contribute to getting cancer. Environment, type of junk food that you eat, and how you take care of yourself. GM foods surely don't help the situation. Even stress I think can contribute to illnesses. To stay healthy one should try and eat the best food they can afford, exercise in moderation, don't sunbathe, relax and enjoy life as best you can then I think you have less chance of getting cancer and other illnesses. That's what I am trying to do anyway. Too many people are suffering from cancer these days and I can't believe they haven't found a cure for it yet. yes, I know for those of you that say they DO cure some cancers....I'm sorry but I believe once you've had it.....it will get you in the end. Sorry

Everyone has cancer cells living inside them with no problems, it is just when you come into contact with something that triggers them to grow. The specific factors for this are pretty much unknown, the reasons people state sometimes dont make sense, you dont have to smoke to get lung cancer, you dont have to be a sun worshipper to get skin cancer.

Medically speaking most of the cancers etiology is not certainly known but basically they r due to endocrinal causes related to the hormones of ur body, environmental causes and genetic causes.
and for every type of cancer there r some risk factors which speeds up and enhances the growth of that cancer e.g smoking in bronchogenetic carcinoma, obesity in breast carcinomas and so on..

Although the exact cause of cancer is not yet known, there are several triggers for various cancers. For example, lung cancer is caused by smoking or smoke related affects. Skin cancer is caused by excessive exposure to the sun or to frequent use of sunbeds. Liver cancer or liver metastases is caused by excessive drinking over a number of years.

I believe that cancerous cells arise very frequently in the human body, due to a variety of genetic factors and environmental exposures. The disease, cancer, develops when the human immune system fails to repress and eliminate those precursor cells. This is usually caused by stress and environmental suppressants, like tobacco, alcohol, and sugar, and other chemical exposures.

There are many beliefs and theories about what causes cancer. It depends on the cancer type. Radiation exposure, smoking, bad diet and genes are very common associations, however, nothing is in black and white.
