Clean out a closet, wash the floor, take a walk for 30 minutes...burn off the stress with something physical. It is a temporatary band aide only though. Real stress needs to be dealth with or it will leave you with physiological problems somewhere in the body. What goes on above the neck affects what goes on below the neck.

Distraction doesn't work for me, I found trying to tire myself out. I will usually take a very very long walk. I've been able to walk 10 miles at a time because of stress. I never stop thinking because my mind never shuts down, but if I push my body to the limit I can at least sleep for a short span and regenerate myself.

Get yourself into reading, painting or a hobby...something you can do on a regular basis. Keep your mind busy with some projects...but keep them varied. Volunteer at local hospitals, day cares or other community functions. And always remember.....almost every problem is not nearly as bad as you think it is. Good luck.....

Exercise is the number one answer. Stay active. Helping others is also a great distractor. Helping others is also quite noble and gratifying. Keep yourself busy, and please read as much as possible to keep your concentration. I mean read and understand. Read this book "Weeping Willow Weep for Me". I have forgot the author but you can find it in a bookstore.

This is a very good blog, a beginner’s guide to abnormal psychology.
Short, clear and simple; and you can even post your question and contact the author regarding particular subject you are interested in, for FREE

Spend time with Friends, I notice that my anxiety is much worst when I am alone because I have too much time to think. You may want to try Yoga as well just to quiet your mind and body but for me nothing beats talking about it to my therapist.
