Are there certain exercises to do in order to increase the range of notes a singer is able to hit sucessfully? If so, what are they? Or would vocal lessons be the answer?

Take voice lessons with a REPUTABLE teacher. Not just some person from your town who has a nice voice and sings around town in church services and things like that. Often, people who sing well sing well naturally and do not understand how to teach.

Practice singing scales. Record them and increase the range a little each week.

Get a REALLY good voice teacher, Like I did. They can help you safely(so you dont strain your voice, if you do you can permantatley damage it and not be able to sing) They can help you do scales proplerly and increase your range in small increments.

Vocal lessons would be the best answer so you don't strain your voice.
