My family is Christian (Lutheran). I have relatives of other Christian denominations and atheists. In my family the different religions are not a problem at all. We get along fine and respect each other's beliefs even if we don't agree with them.
I was not raised to be an atheist. By default they expected me to be a Christian like themselves and I was taught about Christianity, taken to Sunday school and made read the Bible etc. but the things they taught me never made sense to me. I really couldn't imagine that there was a God and a lot of the stories from the Bible just seemed silly to me (no offense to anyone). I always remained an atheist, despite all the attempts to turn me into a Christian, and although I've learned a lot about various religions in my life, nothing so far has given me any reason to believe that there is a god.

I am the only one in my family that is an atheist. When I first told my family it caused a few problems, but nothing too serious. They came to the conclusion that no matter how much they preach to me I wasn't going to change. I am the same person I have always been, I just don't believe what they believe...they had to love me for the person I am.

I'm an atheist, but i came from a religious family. i became an atheist at a very early age and it is very funny remembering the parade of priests and nuns who my parents invited to our home to talk me out of it. my mother eventually drifted away from the catholic church into a vague theism, because of the paedophile priest thing and the catholic churches reaction to it. some of my aunts, uncles and cousins are still offended by my atheism. my maternal grandfather, god bless him ( just a phrase), who lived in rural Ireland, under the influence of more than a few drinks, confessed he thought that i was probably right. and to his neighbours he was a god fearing church going man. i wonder how many more there were like him?

In the immediate family mom, dad, siblings I am the only atheist one.
It doesn't cause problems, but sometimes leads to a lively discussion on various topics.
Right after I stopped believing in Santa, the tooth fairy and other such nonsense I stopped believing in god so I was probably like 4 or 5. My parents would leave me with relatives when they went to church when I was younger they never forced their religious beliefs on me, but me siblings both older and younger kept going, I guess they found something in it to appeal to them.

I am not an atheist...but I wanted to make a comment here....
I do not believe that there is such a thing as a true atheist. Two of my long time friends were atheists. They were both great guys and we got along fine knowing we have differing views on God. Both of these men came down with a terminal disease and both of them cried out to God near the end.
I wish they had come around sooner.........
My point is, I believe the majority of those of atheists posting in here, when you realise the end is near, will change your minds.......
I hope you ALL do.......

I was raised as a Catholic and I found it difficult to reconcile actuality with my religion so I becam an atheist. I find life so much better now. I don't live in superstitious fear and I handle life's difficulties with the power of realism.
If I die and my relatives find it comforting to bury me as a catholic that's fine.

I'm the only one that I know about. It does cause problems, because I really don't want to hear about religion anymore. I started off as a christian and then became an atheist later on in life.

The only religious person in my family was my nan, a devout Irish catholic , worshiped her god until the age of 82 then died from cancer of the colon. I've always wondered if she thanked him for that
