I think it would help a lot. PC has ruined so much... everyone gets offended at the slightest thing and most people aren't quite sure what to call someone of another race (black, african-american -- not all blacks are african!, cocoa gods, etc). Some people get offended if you call them American rather than -American. And you're right, why shouldn't the word honky be acceptable? Why shouldn't other "forbidden" words??? It is very frustrating!!!

Political correctness is one of the most idiotic ideas to ever be accepted by society. For example, we can no longer call the person who picks up the trash at the curb a "garbage man", oh no, that's too offensive, as well as gender specific. So now we have to call him a "sanitation engineer", which is completely moronic, as the person who's picking up trash never went to engineering school or holds a professional engineering license with the state.
The sooner we get rid of PC, the better.

Politically correct is just the new term for manners. A generation ago one would not have considered using such terms. And the world would definitely be better if people exercised the manners they presumably learned as a child. If you have no manners, try being kind. Is it a term you would like to have attached to yourself? If not, don't use it.

Depends on what you mean by being politically correct. The generic definition:
Political correctness (also politically correct or PC) is a term used to describe language, or behavior, which is claimed to be calculated to provide a minimum of offense, particularly to the racial, cultural, or other identity groups being described.
1. When L.A. cops beat up a black man, that was politically incorrect.
Result: People flipped out and attempted to burn the city down.
2. In the U.S. we believe in educating ALL of our youth to build them up and encourage them to become productive members of society. We are careful in how we speak to them and treat them. In Brazil: The presence of vast numbers of unsupervised and unprotected children is a phenomenon that is common throughout Latin America, and in few places are the street children more visible, and reviled, than in Brazil. Brazil's street children are targets of fear.
Result: Because of their drug use, predatory crimes, and general unacceptability on urban thoroughfares, they are frequently the targets of local vigilante groups, drug gangs, and police "death squads." The death squad's mission is to exterminate the boys. (UNICEF, 1996).
In America, as is not the case in many other countries, we practice being pc because it maintains the solidarity of our citizens. There are other obvious reasons, but this is probably prime.
I could go on and on but I think you get the picture.

Politically correctness becomes a need when people have forgotten how to be genuinely polite. It's a shortcut, and it only means teachers and parents are not doing their job.

I'm sick of being politically correct and I refuse to do it anymore. Who came up with that idiotic idea anyway? People have to repress their feeling and bite their tongues now...no wonder so many people are on anti-depressants.

Hmm, I can't stand PC to be honest, you should be able to say what you like as long as it's not in an offensive manner, people should stop being so damn sensitive and just get over themselves.
