Oh sweet heart I went through the same thing. When I was 9 weeks pregnant I went for a scan and they told me the same thing. There was a sac but no baby. I was so terrified and scared. I thought it was something I did wrong. But this actually seems to be more common. This is what you call a "blighted ovum". Where there is a sac and your pregnancy progresses as if you are still pregnant but there is no baby inside. You still produce the hormones and feel pregnant. Eventually you will miscarry and the sac will come out on it's own. If it doesn't then you will need to get is surgically removed. See most times this happens to woman but they have a miscarriage and they didn't even know that there wasn't a baby. They assumed all was going well and then this happens. Usually at 6 weeks they can see the heart beat of the baby so maybe 5 weeks is a little early. I don't want to scare you with this but this might be what's happening with you. I've been through it and now what it's like. After 3 months of this happening to me I got pregnant again and had my son in April. He's a happy baby boy. So don't think that this will happen again, if it is a "blighted ovum". It's not common for it to happen a second time around. I suggest you read up about it just incase that is what you have. I'm crossing my fingers for you that you and the baby are okay but this is just a heads up for you incase you want to know what it's called. Good luck.

If there is no foetal pole, yolk or heartbeat then it is very unlikely that the baby is viable and will be able to survive. I am so sorry for you. I have had two miscarriages in the last year (at 12 and 10 weeks respectively) and know how quickly you become attached to the baby growing inside you! Miscarriage is horribly common and as many as 30% of first pregnancies end in miscarriage. Don't give up hope though, good will always come in the end.

I had the same thing happen to me. It was called a blighted ovum. this is when the egg is fertilized by the sperm but the pregnancy never really goes any further than that. They told me that is common in pregnancies that would have had problems with the fetus. I was told it would pass on it's own within a couple of days however when i went back to work I started hemorrhaging and had to have a d&c. it was a painful experience both physically and emotionally.. Good luck to you and i hope all turns out well for you.

i know this must be a very hard time for you.
all you can do is pray, and pray, and pray some more.
but you need to keep a positive heart and mind.
you need to take some one w/ you to the doctor for moral support. don't do this alone. you'll be stronger if you keep the faith.
my heart really goes out to u.
I'll pray for you and your family. (BEST OF LUCK TO YOU)!!

unfortunately there is nothing anyone can do only hope for the best. I wish you luck. I'm currently undergoing IVF & I understand how you must be feeling. Keep your chin up.

I UNDERSTAND HOW YOU ARE FEELING , BUT IF IT IS NOT RIGHT IT IS NATURES WAY OF GETTING RID OF IT. THIS MAY SEEM A BIT HARSH,AND UNCARING , BUT YOU DO NOT WANT TO HAVE A DEFORMED CHILD. YOU CAN TRY AGAIN IN A FEW MONTHS,IS BEST TO HAVE A REST IF YOU DO LOSE IT. GOOD LUCK.
