Each National Park has its uniqueness and I suppose you choose the one that has most sights that interest you .. for example, for Yosemite : Yosemite National Park, one of the first wilderness parks in the United States, is best known for its waterfalls, but within its nearly 1,200 square miles, you can find deep valleys, grand meadows, ancient giant sequoias, a vast wilderness area, and much more.

For many people, national parks provide a connection to the wilderness. You don't have to be into active vacations to enjoy the scenic wonders of the parks. However, if you are into active vacations, the parks provide a reasonably safe way to experience the wilderness.
Regardless of why people visit the parks, the vast majority are technically "tourists" or visitors. It doesn't matter if they're there for a just a day to enjoy the scenery and take a few pictures or if they're there for a week-long backpack trip into the mountains, they all get some amount of pleasure out of the experience. If they didn't, the parks wouldn't be as popluar as they are.
I've visited 36 of our national parks so far. Many of them more than once. The sights I've see can only be described as amazing. Recently, I visited Katmai National Park in Alaska where I watched 20 to 30 brown bears fishing for sockeye salmon in the Brooks River and at Brooks Falls. The experience was almost hypnotic. It's difficult to put into words the feeling of watching huge bears just mere yards away. I also flew over Denali National Park and landed on the Ruth Glacier. Again, it's difficult to describe the feeling of standing on a glacier almost a mile thick with granite mountains towering a mile above you.
If you're the outdoor type, you'll love the national parks. If you don't like the outdoors, you won't. If you're not sure what type you are, vist a national park to find out. But, my advice is to avoid the more popular parks during the peak season (usually summer). The crowds in Yellowstone, Grand Canyon and Yosemite (among others) can be very unpleasant during the peak season. Either visit during the shoulder seasons (spring and fall) or go to one of the less heavily visited parks like Great Basin, Glacier, Lassen, Redwood, etc.
