Well, in my experience, I've learned that cats are attracted to either the smell of the tree (if it's real), or the sparkly ornaments & lights. I have a 2 year old cat, and she has never climbed up into our tree, but not all cat owners are so lucky.
Maybe you should try and keep your cat out of that room, or just make sure that all the ornaments & the tree are secure... after all animals deserve to have fun at Christmas too.

If you find the answer to this question I would sure like to know. I have tried all the suggestions I have found on the net so far. Tinfoil under the tree worked for about an hour, now he plays with it. Spray in him with water used to work when he scratched the furniture back with the tree he gets soaked and still won't get out. Haven't tried the orange peels yet but I am about to peel an orange and try it. Good Luck!

Wow, I am shocked. Cats are made to climb trees! Now that I've made a joke at your expense, let's solve the problem. (Joke was on me a few years ago.) 1. NEVER PUT TINSIL OR GARLAND on a tree with a cat in the house. My cat, Stinker (he earned that name because he was so onery) ate tinsil I had on my tree a few years ago. He stopped eating & was lethargic so I figured he ate the tinsil since he liked playing with it. That was a trip to the vet for Xrays (metal tinsil) & yep, it was like wadded up metal strings in 2 places in his intestines. He got an antibiotic shot & laxatives. I watched for it in the litterbox & it soon presented itself there. 2. Place all decorations that make noise (jingle bells, musical things) high enough so kitty cannot reach them from the ground. 3. Place a ring of mouse traps around the tree on the floor. And put some in the tree, too. When kitty snaps them, he will remember! This worked for Stinker so well, I put them on the kitchen cabinets also. (Note: if you want to make them so they don't snap all the way down on kitty's paws, tape ROUND toothpicks CROSSWISE under the wire to prevent it. Cut off the pointed ends of the toothpick where they stick out of the edges of the trap.)

Get plastic ornaments and keep light strings off the bottom. My cats have played in the tree for years and haven't gotten hurt (thank God). Just kitty proof your tree (hang ormaments with yarn instead of wire hangers, and remove tinsel and icicles, tie the tree to ceiling so it doesn't tip over). This is how my kitty looked one morning after a romp with the tree. I just couldn't be mad at him! Good luck! http://good-times.webshots.com/photo/244...

You can't, other than keeping her out of the room where the tree is situated. Many cat owners have told me that cats are independent types, and are not as readily trained as dogs.

You can't you will have to secure your ornaments w/wire or only put soft ornaments on the tree. If your not around you may have to close her off from the room.

In my experience, either they are interested in the tree and you won't be able
to stop them, or they will not be interested and you won't have to do anything.
