One could be your move. Are u less happy there? Is there something about the UK you miss deeply. U may have put a lot of stress on yourself. How you deel with stress is a biggie. Also, you could have a chemical imbalance. It is not uncommon and nothing to be ashamed of. I have one. www.depressionhurts.com has a 'quiz' you can take. According to the answer you give, it can help find out if u r depressed, how u can deel with it, what to ask the Doc.
Without meds - one day I would be soo happy. Next day, woe is me, i am in agony, why am i here, does anyone care. Sometimes I can change moods 10 times in one day. There r more than 2 moods - there are many, happy, sad, angry, ashamed, scared, VERY upset, edgy, cranky, -- u can even have evil thoughts. Seek help from a Doctor.
Depression is serious.
Wish u well.

The symptoms you describe sound to me very similar to those of bipolar disorder (also called "manic depression"), when you indicate sometimes you feel "up" and other times "down". Look on the internet for "bipolar disorder" (try google) and see if the symptoms described for it are at all similar to what you have personally been going through. Hopefully you have health insurance, and will consider going to a doctor who can then refer you to a psychiatrist. The psychiatrist would diagnose you and prescribe you a medication. Sometimes it will take some time to find the right medicine and/or combination of medicines to treat the condition, as well as finding the proper dosages of each, which can sometimes be challenging. You will need to keep in close contact with the psychiatrist and keep him informed of any and all changes that take place while you are going through the trial so that he will know which med(s) aren't working and how to make adjustments.
P.S. I see that some of the others have suggested "diversion activities", however the thing that tips me off that this needs medical attention is the fact that you refer to the feeling that this is "deeply psychological".

This is a great opportunity to do the things you've always wanted to do. It sounds like you're established so you should do something that you've wanted to do. Make a short video, record a song, work on a car with your kids. Maybe it's simply that you need to engage in short goals for it's own rewards.
If it's a mild depression, then perhaps St. John's Wort. Maybe even a physician.
Sometimes throughout the day, the mind goes through different levels of moods. Perhaps you tend to feel the same way at the same time of the day or night. This can be normal to be a little down sometimes and the best cure is to be able to identify when it's happening and know that it will pass.
But all in all, I recommend simple R&R and pursueing the things you've always wanted to do.

Sounds like you might have bi-polar disorder( DON'T PANIC...lol sounds like the Hitchhiker's guide to the Galaxy). If you feel your responses to everyday situations are a little over the top then it's a good idea to see a professional who has the training and ability to help you become more balanced. Remember, if anything is going on,it has nothing to do with what kind of person you are. It's just part of you. I'm diagnosed a mild bi-polar(saying this on the net, I must be losing it..lol). I've found that it's other people that have a problem with it. That's on them. If they can't handle it screw them. A happy life and good luck to you...
Yea ..what Jane says, she has a good answer..lol

I think it's only natural to be upset you must have a lot going through your head, have I made the right move, etc. you may also be slightly depressed. If you were back here in the UK it's cold wet and dark most of the time hang in there and I hope things work out.

If you really feel like these issues are affecting your life and your ability to function normally, it could be depression - possibly manic depression if I was to guess. Do you have any other symptoms like abnormal sleep patterns, weight issues, general disinterest in life? If you do and as I mentioned previously, it really is affecting your life you should consult a doctor for advice.
However, it more likely down to the fact you have experienced a big change in your life and you just feel a bit unsettled and unsure at the moment. Relocating to the other side of the world is a big thing and its bound to take you a while to feel relaxed and comfortable.
Perhaps you are over analysing your feelings too much as well? We all go through ups and downs in life. Sometimes you can feel really low one moment and really happy the next yet nothing has really changed. its just human nature!

It sounds like you are hitting the male menopause .................. and yes, men also have a menopause between 35 - 45 years. When each man starts varies - kinda like puberty - no one begins at the same time.
Try a little St John's wort to balance your moods/emotions. And do resist the urge to buy extrremely fast sports cars and date pre-pubescent girls as most menopausal men tend to do during this period.
On the up side, these are going to be the best years of your lfie. You'll become more confident and sure of yourself - dispalying that magnetic appeal that attracts a lot of younger women to older men.

It is a western problem of being bored and needing to depressed about something. Some people in the world do not have time to be depressed or bored - they are busy trying to find food to eat.
Think about them and feel glad about what you have. If that does not work then visit some poor countries every few years - even if you stay in a 5* hotel, you will see what is outside.

you are not the only one who is up and down, lots of people are. you need to take the focus away from yourself and think bout other things, ie your children and wife - maybe you could start hobbies/activity/sport that involves your family. This will also help you to settle in to your new life as a family. good luck, I would love to be in Australia, its cold here!
To Lady sorrow : (I tried to send you a message but you dont accept mail etc) have you heard of a book called change your life in 7 days by Paul Mckenna? It is very interesting and may help you as you said you have always been up and down.
