I dont think its all that dangerous.

General anaesthetics are no where near as dangerous as they used to be.

My mum had 2 replacement knees in her 70's and was up out of bed the next day walking with a zimmer frame.

She went to Australia on her own 6 months later, she was fine .

Dont worry hun x

Hi well its not really the surgery thats dangerous, its her age affraid to say.The operation is safe and the out come are normally very good for total knee replacments, and rarley patients get problems.Because you nan is 78 there always worry about patients being put under by GA,but if you nan is generally fit,not over weight, and dont smoke im sure she will be ok.All patients being put under by GA theres always a risk doenst matter what age young or old,but the older they are the more at risk they are.I hope all goes well for your nan.

My Grandad had the operation when he was 59 and it was fine, back then the Knee joint was only supposed to last 10 years yet his was great for about 17 years and then his other knee went and all the strain on his replacement knee meant some agonising wear and tear. For 5 years the NHS had him on a waiting list to replace the second original knee Only to tell him at 81 after fobbing him off with excuse after excuse that he was too old. This knocked him for Six and he was in agony with both Knees trying to shuffle about his home let alone go anywhere. Then after a Very Good local GP
asked for a second opinion for him, he was requested by post for an assesment to which he was overjoyed. The letter came on the Saturday morning and when we visited on the Sunday we discovered that he had died in his Sleep.
The NHS failed my Grandad and many like him - but I hope Your gran's operation goes well as I'm sure it will, But remember to keep and eye on both her knees in the future and don't be affraid to ask for second opinions.

Mil your question if completely primary. I too am frightened of anesia yet you'd be purely effective.for sure you're in my prayers. Now for the nitty gritty, mom had her knee replaced and it does take a 12 months for the swelling to bypass down and minor discomfort and all to bypass away. the secret's to do precisely what the well-being practitioner says to do and as you recognize do your remedy on a daily basis devoid of preventing. It makes each and every of the version in the international. My mom went abode and did her remedy and for her it change into the finest because daddy change into there for her. Going to rehab is sturdy in case you stay on my own yet make constructive it really is a sturdy rehab center.no longer a nursing abode.I say that because a chum of ours did that and it change right into a disaster . Chin up kido you'd be walking with the better human beings quickly.we are going to be taking into consideration you Wednesday.

Well I had Hip Replacement that went wrong, they did not put the muscle back on the bone properly. It has left me Disabled and they won't operate to try and put it wright because they say it will make it worse. A fortnight later I found out it was a back specialist that did my operation. But I think most operations are dangerous that is why you sign those consent forms.

I work for a man that had one in June of this year. He's doing very well with his knee, but while in the hospital, he got a bug that has caused him to have awful diarrea since then. To this day, they are still trying to get rid of it, and as a result, he's developed colitis.I would voice my concerns to the doctor. I have heard of this happening often. How old is your nan? I think that when they get older, this kind of stuff is harder on them.Good luck to your nan.

The risks are usually due to other factors(like smoking, drinking and obesity) not the actually knee-replacement itself. I know a few people who have had it done and not one of them suffered any problems. in fact, my friend, who had her op just 3months ago is now thinking of climbing Ben Nevis. Hope all goes well.
