Yes it does!

You have asked the question under the cancer category so I will answer from that viewpoint.
Do not go to a therapist who says that their qualification is ‘lymphatic drainage’ – they will not be fully qualified to treat anyone who has had a cancer op/lymph nodes removed.

In the UK the only association to go to is http://www.mlduk.org.uk/
to find a fully trained therapist (Manual Lymphatic Drainage Therapy).

In the US go to http://www.vodderschool.com/

For lymphoedema you need a therapist who is fully qualified in CDT (Combined Decongestive Therapy). They are also proficient at measuring and fitting for compression garments when needed.

MLD gets the lymph moving and can re-direct the flow - multi-layer bandaging maintains the results.
On average a person might need 10+ consecutive daily treatments for post-cancer lymphoedema (they tend to start from approx £40 each outside London).

It is definitely worth it and can dramatically improve the lives of those who suffer from this disabling (sometimes ) condition.

There are also Groups on Yahoo for you to join to get helpful support and advice. Do join one of these, it might help you:

I work in a physical therapy clinic where we have certified lympedema specialists. I have seen the amazing effects of lymphatic drainage numerous times, and would highly reccomend it. If you have any questions about it feel free to call 1-248-964-4010 and we will be able to have a therapist call you back and answer them for you.
