I'm looking for a basic entry-level software (just a couple of steps up from MS Paint). Don't need layers or vectors or any such things; just need to be able to do some very simple graphics and text buttons and edit/crop/resize some images. The ones that I've found are HORRIBLY complex and I need seemple.

The best one is undoubtedly The Gimp. It's almost professional-quality.

Theres a free bit of software called GIMP Graphic Image Manipulator Program, which can be downloaded from http://www.gimp.org/windows/
I'm not sure that it's the easiest program to use but it will do all the tasks listed above.

could it be the computer not the program? Not enough memory to hold the program while its running. Have you tried shutting everything else down on your computer and ONLY running that one.
