They are basically the same screen anyway.

If you like Sony ( I do) then it will be a great product, with loads of standard features and a nice ergonomic feel...but they are lacking in the innovation department.

BUT, I'd buy a Philips LCD TV anyday over a SONY one. Philips LEAD the market in innovation & their TV's look much 'slicker' and have better contrast, sound & 'tweakable' settings. The latest 'ambiance' sets are great. The controls can look a bit more 'technical' though.

You know.. I bought an LG 27" LCD a few months ago. I'm actually preparing to buy a 46" but not sure from who, I'm thinking Samsung- (ANY IDEAS ANYONE?)

Anyway though, when I bought my t.v it was the best i could affordbut wanted samsung. Although, APPARENTLY - Samsung's LCD displays are used by LG/Sony/ and I think even Phillips, there was another but I can't remember which manufacturer for sure. Now I was told this by the guy when I gave the impression I wanted a samsung which cost more than the LG. He said pretty much even if I had an LG that I still have quality of samsung display even though the LG was cheaper. Pretty honest!

Here's an idea too. Check out the argos book for a Samsung LCD 40". It's £1599 - I found this site.. www.beyondtelevision.co.uk and that exact model tv is £899 or so. Bargain! I'm looking as we speak for the next size up ;-)

Hope this was useful to you.

The Sony Bravia series caught my eye lately, though Phillips can be a great deal less expensive. The quality is about the same of products of both brands but Sony might give you a performance and features edge.
However don't limit yourself to these two brands, Dell has made an entry into this segment and their displays blow you away. Samsung and Viewsonic have also been in the business long enough to be respected for their products.

Make sure your display is HD capable, atleast 720p if not 1080i

Either one. Philips and Sony have similar quality.

However, Philips is more inclined to have cheaper looking (LOOKING) TV's and unusual (But still nice) locations for AV jacks. They still perform as well as sony TV's.

Sony, on the other hand, is more traditionally built, and they have somewhat superior technology, but if you don't care, I'd stick with Philips. I've used both Sony and Philips, and the only difference is philips uses older masks (screendoor effect could be more visible), and Sony doesn't. If you're going to burn your eye out and stare really close, go with Sony.

If you're in the market for a rear-projection TV, JVC makes some awesome LCoS (It's LCD engineered to not have any screendoor effect, but the maintenence is the same as an LCD) TV's. It's a sight to behold!

Get the Phillips. Sony's assets are just too wide spread to make anything of superior quality.

Sony any day!! They are bigger and better. Their customer service is pretty effecient too.
Phillips look good on the cover, but as time passes you realise the quality of the product deteriorates, the knobs dont feel so good anymore, the finish dulls out.. etc..

Sony is much better, it has better picture, and has more capabilities than a philips. Don't get a philips, it isn't really a good tv, a sony is much better.
