I liked Praise to the holiest in the height. Sorry, honey, yours sounds terrible to me and I really loathe Shine Jesus Shine. That kind of "music" drove me out of church. It was about a year before I could bring myself to go back and then it had to be a different one - that kind of thing is almost physically painful for many people. I have quite a few favourites now - St Catherine's Court (In our day of thanksgiving one psalm let us offer), Noel Nouvelet (Now the green blade riseth). I like Harold Darke's setting of In the bleak midwinter; It came upon the midnight clear. I like "Just as I am without one plea", "Jerusalem", "Picardy" which is "Let all mortal flesh keep silence". I think when you listen to, and sing, the really good stuff, the "dumbed down" stuff is really shown up for what it is.

Wow this has brought back some memories! Until it was played at my friends funeral 2 years ago, my fave was Lord of the Dance. Cant listen to it now, ditto 'Jerusalem', this was our school hymn and it just makes me think of Daves funeral.
I havent thought about that 'jetplanes being refuelled' song for years, Im suddenly 6 again!!!xx

I liked the jet planes one too - Autumn Days it was called! And we sang "The Golden Cockrel" and "Morning Has Broken" and another cool one was "From the tiny ant (from the tiny ant) to the elephant (to the elephant)......" we had the hall divided into two and one side did the echo! There was also that one "And it's from the old I travel to the new/keep me traveling along with you....."
Awwww memories! We could make the best church service ever album with all these hyms we are remembering! And I bet half of us haven't been to church for years!! Haha!!

My daughters used to sing one to me about animals
From the tiny mouse to the highest giraffe or something. They would always sing it on car journeys and they still say that when they get married they want it sung in church. It had lots of choruses and was perfect for school children to sing.
When i was younger we used to sing Morning has broken and i loved that because we were allowed to play instruments alongside some clever souls even managed the whole verse on recorder. I think I was lead triangle once in assembly

I have so many favorites, so I will share a few!
Zaccheus (zi-key-us) was a wee little man and a wee little man was he
He climbed up in a sycamore tree, for the Lord he wanted to see.
As as the savior passed his way he looked up in the tree
And he said!
Zaccheus! You come down!
For I'm going to your house to day, For I'm going to your house to day! (try it with sign language - its becomes educational too!)
And!
Father Abraham Had many sons
Many Sons had father Abraham
I am one of them
And so are you
So lets all praise the Lord "Right Hand" (then move your hand)
Then you repeat the song and after right hand, say left hand, and move your hand.. then your feet/legs/head, going faster and faster with each repitition (gradually)
And in the end, when all the kids are moving about - the final verse is
Father Abraham, had many sons
Many sons had father Abraham
I am one of them, and so are you
So lets all praise the lord Right Arm, Left arm Right Leg Left Leg
move your head (then shout) TURN AROUND! SIT DOWN!
I am a "C-H"
I am a "C-H"
I am a C-H-R-I-S-T-I-A-N
And I have C-H-R-I-S-T in my H-E-A-R-T and I will L-O-V-E--E-T-E-R-N-A-L-L-Y
Repeat It going faster and faster! Its fun!
Good Luck!

Do you know what I can't remember the name of it, or all the words but if you could shed light on it that would be great, It's quite upbeat......
(It says stuff about fluffy clouds and conkers etc!!)
Jet planes meeting in the air to be re-fuelled,
All these things I love so well.
No I mustn't forget, no I mustn't forget....
To say a grat big Thankyou, I mustn't forget.
Also.... It could make me cry now, thinking of it!
Make me a river of your peace,
where their is hatred let me bring your love,
where there is darkness only light
and where there's (????????) true faith in you.
Oh master grant that I may never seek (?)
So much to be consoled as to console
To be understand as to understand
And to love as to love with all my soul

Thy Kingdom come, they will be done on earth as it is in Heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread an lead us not into temptation, for thine is the Kingdom, the power and the glory, for ever and ever Amen"
