What would crate training do ? Just make her feel like she's being punished. She's misses her friend of 6 years, and she's lonely. You need to spend more time with your furry kid. She's letting you know she needs attention and she's sad. How would you feel if someone you really cared for & were with 6years just up and left. That's got to be hurtful and confusing for her. Give her some time to ajust, lots of love and attention, she'll come around. If not, get her a little buddy to play with so she's not lonely anymore!

Don't crate train, that will make her feel like she is being bad. She is feeling the same as you would if you lost something close to you. She needs to be reminded of what is still there YOU, not just about what she lost. Is it possible to get her a puppy for a companion. Sometimes dogs are so social that they need other dogs. If she has lived much of her life with a companion, she might NEED one. At one time I had a 10year old lab and a 8 year old lab. They grew up together. When the older lab passed away, the younger one became so depressed that he wouldn't eat, play, nothing. Just laid around. I took him to the vet, and they said that was normal. Just one of the signs of being depressed. Barking, being destructive, even becoming aggressive, becoming suddenly not house broken, are other signs. They said that it is more common then I realized that this happens and it is possible for them to actually die of a broken heart. That is when I got my puppy St. Bernard. Things turned around and my 8 year old became a puppy again himself. They are inseparable. Good luck!!!

I agree 100% with Suzie! Please, please, please don't put that baby in a crate. That would be devastating. Border Collies are extremely smart, and so are German Shepard's, so you have a very very inteligent dog. You never yell at them,or ever, ever strike them. If you need to disaplin them, hold their nose in your hand, make them look you in the eye's,and tell them their a bad dog. You also need to sit down and have a dog to person talk about your rules. There probebley new to him. Their smart enough to listen to you, and understand what your saying. And they also know how much they can push you,to see how much they can get away with. Their pretty good actors too! So please be patient, and do have a talk with him.
