Say it's only a paper moon sailing over a cardboard sea
But it wouldn't be make believe if you believed in me
Yes it's only a canvass sky hanging over a muslin tree
But it wouldn't be make believe if you believed in me
Without your love, it's a honky-tonk parade
Without your love, it's a melody played in a penny arcade
It's a Barnum and Bailey world, just as phony as it can be
But it wouldn't be make believe if you believed in me

Paper moon, from the movie of the same name...hrmmmm
I had never considerd that there might be some sort of religious significance to that particular piece of music...I suppose one could look at it with that sort of perspective...a Christian might see that the world is nothing but an imitation of reality without beliefe in God and jesus (I wouldn't say that but they might...)

Pagans (like me) might see this as things not being able to manifest without our belief in their reality...so it is possible...although I seriously doubt that the author had any sort of religious ideas in mind when he wrote it...I think he was just making a point that someone needs the love and trust of another in order for the world to be more than just empty copies of life...
