Most definately without any doubt - the internet. So much more resource for booking, research, extras and planning all down the line.
My inspiration lies with past experience and the things I enjoy, much of my travelling is because of my love for photography and new horizons.
The internet is a tool for shopping around and getting the best deal. I book direct with the hotel on occasions and get a better deal that even booking with an online site. How many people could do that without the internet?? I certainly wouldn't have been able to put my finger on a hotel in the USA and find a number in a phonebook going back a few years.
I know its everyday and we take it for granted but I feel that its the cornerstone of modern travel for planning your next trip and the years to come!!

The finding of my long lost cousins have inspired me to take Hols. in Bangor N. Ireland for the last three years. I lost touch with them back in 1957 it was the first time that I had met them when, then they lived in Belfast.I traced one name on the internet and then like Hey presto! found them all.I will visit every year from now on. I find Bangor a nice little place, and flights from Inverness being started there it is only half an hour away and most of all the Irish are so friendly, my wife and I just love it over there.

My Dog inspires all my holiday plans, I never go away without her, however I live in Switzerland so most destinations can be arrived at by road. I no longer fly, was scary enough before without the added paranoia of Terrorists. BTW Thomson do not offer any Dog friendly holidays in main land Europe, obviously not enough takers. Also I would only fly again on a private plane, not one full of strangers.

It starts with an interesting place, with ancient sites for me and birdwatching & nature for him. So would normally be the Med. We look for a small hotel or, preferably, aparthotel, where we can make breakfast but still have hotel facilities with a pool for the children. We want somewhere for our children to meet other kids, but away from the party scene and out-of-control Brits. It has to offer good value for money.
If we find all of the above, but the flights are at 4am, then we reject it & look elsewhere.
The last package we took that fulfilled all of the above was to a small resort on Rhodes. We spent the night in Rhodes Town in a cheap hotel while we were there. Plenty of ancient sites and little churches to explore; orchids & olive groves with their birds and lizards. Greek salads, sunsets...
Oh, and flights from small regional airports are nice too - less hassled than flying from the big ones, smaller crowds and fewer delays.

I research on the internet. www.tripadvisor.com has all the reviews for hotels in the world from people who have stayed there. It is much more reliable than the hotels' own brochures.
As we have a child we find it more convenient to have British holidays now as you get a second bedroom in caravan holidays but if you go abroad you only get 1 bedroom.

I am inspired to travel by me. I want to see the world, so good adverts on TV showing wonderful landscapes and beautiful cinematography really inspire me. Also, good photographic pieces in magazine adverts.... or generally articles on interesting places (such as those found in the National Geography magazine). I don't really think about what my friends say - they're not me - i travel for my own reasons. - for me!
Films can inspire me but only if they show the true beauty of the place - such as... the new James Bond film?
I want to see all the famous historical sites around the world - and get a glimpse of other cultures - such as the remote places in Tibet etc.... and that's due to articles, Michael Palin's "Himilaya" and also just my general curiosity to see other's ways of life.
So i think that insiration comes from all over - i mean obviously it depends on the person - but for me it isn't friends or family... I think we should travel to places beacuse WE want to, not because others think you should

When I go on holiday (not since 1997) it has to be somewhere I will enjoy the food, I like to go self catering so that I can meet the locals in the food shops. Weather, beaches people. Superb. If you have any freebies going remember me.
