I am very stupid and I started picking at the dead skin on my heel. My sister says she does this all the time and it never hurts her. But I tried it last night and I bled a tiny bit on my foot. Now I can't apply too much pressure to it otherwise it hurts very badly and I can't put shoes on either otherwise the shoe will rub against the heel and cause more pain.

Any suggestions to what I should do?

Apply a moisturizing cream twice daily to the affected heels, such as flexitol heel balm
Use pumice stone to reduce the thickness of the hard skin.
Avoid open backed shoes or thin soled shoes
Buy shoes with a good shock absorbing sole
Never try to pare down the hard skin your self with a razor blade or a pair of scissors!

have the same problem.

For the moment you can do nothing till it heals- it will take a couple of days, so just keep your weight off the foot.

Later: You can shave off the excess dead skin with a VERY sharp knife- be VERY careful and soak your feet for 1-2 hours first (kitchen salt solution is best IMO). Or use a heel scrapping stone/ pumice (available in all pharmacies) takes longer but is much safer than a knife.

Keep your heels moist all the time- means a oily cream of some sort. Sholl makes a good cream for cracked heels. Creams for chapped hands are also OK. Twice daily should do.

I'm sorry to say this condition can be controlled but does not go away- so foot care will be your morning and evening chore for the next 90 years or so. On the bright side, it means having nice, non smelling feet.
