i think it is very true based on a materialistic views/values. if you see something, want it , you need to" work" towards it. if it is a toy , the child will want it, will perhaps work towards earning it with things such as good grades, house hold chores. for adults wanting that new car makes you discontent with your old , working harder,longer to get it. its all very basic, advertising uses human envy and greed to sell products. religion is world wide. those who believe - in whatever God , whatever faith know that true contentment comes from within themselves. those who buy into advertising ploys dont remember ....you cant take it with you :)

Advertising affects some people more than others. Some people think they have to have something when they see an ad for it. I don't go shopping that much. A lot of people want to be successful, not just because of advertising. Everything costs so much, we know we need to get good jobs to pay the bills.
