Because the frivilous ones only take a minute to answer and you get your 2 points. If I take 10 minutes to answer a serious one I'm wasting my time as many other people have already answered it by then and only 1 of them gets the extra 10 points.

Well the dumb questions are easier to answer & more fun! The serious ones are of course more difficult to answer depending on the catagory. Hey the point system is still the same- why not take a stab at a dumb question?

Low-hanging fruit.
There are a lot more idiots than there are contemplative people. If you ask a REAL question, most people either don't have the capacity, or interest, to think long enough to actually come to a conclusion and post an answer.
Besides, believe it or not, a lot of people answer questions just for POINTS!
