I am going to New York on Nov. 30th and wanted to know the best places to spot celebrities and the places where they film movies or tv shows on the streets of New York?

You can also check on IMDB for any of those to see if they discuss particular shooting locations.
The best way to see celebrities is just to walk around and look for them. They most likely won't be in Times Square, but will be in more residential areas like on Central Park West and in the West Village. Also, Barney's on Madison & 61st is a hot bed of celeb shopping, so stop by there.

I saw Al Franken riding a bike in Riverside Park once.
I saw Timothy Hutton at 86th and Broadway
I saw Brian Denehy coming out of a hotel on Central Park South
I saw Yaphet Koto(sp) on a subway platform in Times Sq
My friend became friendly with Uncle Junior from the Sopranos at the Pig N Whstle on west 47th.

I spotted one in Tribeca.. and I think Robert DeNiro has a place in that area. One of my friends spotted Jon Stewart (and John Leguizamo.. ick) in a coffee shop there, too. There's Nobu in Tribeca which seems pretty popular with celebs.
I think some are also in SoHo and/or NoHo.
As for the movie sets, those can be practically anywhere.
These sightings were pretty random.. I wouldn't hinge too much hope on seeing llots of celebs. Enjoy your trip.

Most NY shows are shot in LA on Warner Bros and Fox's New York sets, but check Variety's shooting schedules and something may be shooting. New York is very difficult to shoot in - but during the Holiday Season I doubt you will see too much. You might see some celebs shopping - good luck.
I would just enjoy the city - it's beautiful at the holidays.

in case your total reason to head to the city is to work out celebrities. solid luck. I proceed to exist long island and have been in the city some circumstances. i've got not seen any celebrities. Broadway is 8th st. circumstances squareis close to to that.

West Village or Time Square-- I work in the West Village/Chelsea and my coworkers and I have seen tons of celebrities. my roommate works in Times Square and has seen alot of musicians.

Sometimes they drink and eat in Greenwich Village pubs. Careful though; some bars there are gay bars.
