Multiple system atrophy is a degenerative disorder characterized by the following:
* Progressive damage to the nervous system, leading to low blood pressure when standing, difficulty urinating, and abnormal breathing during sleep
* Muscle tremor and rigidity
* Slow movement
* Disrupted REM sleep patterns
