If Christianity is true, won't the truth hold up under scrutiny? Shouldn't the church welcome and promote rational skepticism as a way of confirming and spreading the faith when people see that it fails to undermine Christianity? Why isn't skeptical literature studied and refuted in Sunday School classes? Why did the church burn out Gallileo's eyes?

It isn't the skepticism that is the problem. It is the spirit with which it is used. If you are seeking answers in order to find the truth, you will be rewarded with your goal. If you are looking for perceived flaws and inconsistancies, that's what you will find.

I don't know anything about Gallileo's eyes.

Will unbelievers study the evidence which obviously and blatantly supports special creation by a supernatural being known as God?
Will they allow this evidence to be equally presented along side the theory of evolution in all classrooms and allow students to decide for themselves?
The belief that the Earth was the centre of the solar system is no more supported or promoted by the Bible than the teaching that the Earth is flat. These things were obvious misinterpretations of what is actually written -and easily understood- in the Bible, probably because some had too much pride and superstition.
Why are evolutional teachings that have been proven to be fraudulent still taught as science and fact in the classroom? Why are these same teachings still in the textbooks?
Why has evidence proving that mankind and dinosaurs coexisted at the same time been withheld from the classrooms and text books of our education systems?

The RC church in those days had vested interests.
Its no longer that way. Christianity is open to rational skeptics.
there are so many pages of webspace devoted to disproving the bible or finding inconsistancies. noones stopping them.

In Christianity you listen to the Bible which is the Word of God.

Made up "truths" of men that are in love with their own intelligence and the made up "truth" of rationalizers is not needed or welcome.

Judging from your questions you should do it.... may be this is your purpose? As for Galileo's eyes I haven't the slightest idea.

You've never heard of Apologetics have you? Christianity has many of them and they boldly welcome opposing view points for sensible debates. Look them up sometime :)
