This is a question to atheists and theists.
Atheists first:
Have you ever convinced someone to abandon their religion? How? What did you say/do?

Theists:
Have you ever successfully converted an atheist to your religion? How? What did you say/do?

For both:
What is the main argument that defends your views?

If you have not been successful:
Why bother arguing? Doesn't it seem pointless?

I am an atheist and yes, quite a few people have started thinking differently because of my conversation. You need to know though that to bring someone out of being brainwashed takes in the very least, months, if not a few years. What I talk about are how we are told something since birth, of course we're going to believe it.....then compare that to them being born somewhere else on the planet...IE: If you were born in Turkey you'd be muslim (example). Then I talk about how it is impossibly for anyone to know (because it is) however that is usually an agnostic stand.....atheists are just pissed off agnostics. lol. I will give them books to read and help them understand that they dont' necessarily have to believe what they've been told and to seek out other beliefs and religions even. The intelligent ones come around, the ones that live in denial never do......Simple mathematics, it will take a few hundred years to overcome what those in power use to keep themselves in power...... plain and simple. be well, jack

As a Christian I have never been able to convert anyone to my religion. (atheist or otherwise) But, I don't argue about it. I would encourage people to think for themselves and examine both points. The offer of salvation is open to those who will have it, it really isn't my place to debate the point.

I have led 4 people to the Lord on the side from this site, and I am just getting started.
How? Well each person is different and they each require a different approach. You must meet people where they are and address their needs.

The only arguments I can offer is the Word of God, and my personal testimony.

I haven't converted anyone. I'm not one of those who argue, because I know I can't do much about it. I've witnessed people converting or becoming more religious, and I can tell you it was not because of a successful demonstration, everything that was said in words was only for their edification, AFTER they already knew they had faith in God.

I'm atheist, and no. I've only been an atheist for a short while, though... :)

But, even if I had "helped" people convert, no one can really convert another person. They have to do it themselves.

Arguments are not always meant as a contest . some of us just share information that just happens to not agree with everyone. success is not really the purpose of this site unless you go to the business financial venue.

I am Christian and yes someone converted 2 nights ago. We have been talking on email since. She was looking for it, and I led her in prayer, thanks to the Holy Spirit.

But she wasnt convinced, she was seeking.

Blessings

I'm an atheist.

First question: I don't know.

Question for both: http://www.strongatheism.net/library/atheology/argument_from_noncognitivism/

Third question: Because it's always good to repeat the truth.
