I did so to get laid once. After a while I got tired of going to church though. Sundays are best for sleeping off hangovers.

Get what we wanted from whom? God knows the intentions and thoughts of everyone, so He'll also know if a Christian is not really a Christian, just faking it.
To fake being a Christian and face the persecution that Christians face would be foolish, to say the least. The only possible time I could ever see this occur is for prisoners looking for leniency from sentences. It is when they do this that these individuals show their true stripes. A true, born again, repentant Christian would not only accept the consequences of their actions -including the death penalty- they would gladly acknowledge their crimes and the justice of their sentences
