On one hand I think they're not trying. On the other hand, maybe some are and we write it off as BS ?

You are right on this one. We are capable of doing greater things then Jesus did while HE Walked the Earth in human form. The main reason for us not doing this is a lack of faith, and distance from God.
If you look at the Bible you can clearly see that when people were closest to God that is when miracles came the fastest, and most often. Along with that also came swift justice, like that of Ananias, and Sapphira.
Sin is so rampant today that we as a whole, are far from God, and therefore from miracles, and swift judgment.
If we would take hold of 2nd Chronicles 7; 14 then we would start to see miracles, happening at such a pace that they would almost become just another thing to most people.

I think Jesus is refering to the mirical of salvation, and only true believers can bring someone to salvation, and only because Jesus has paid for their sins; also we are simply tools of the holy spirit in that work, as of ourselves we could not make a change in someone's life as people do not natually want God's salvation plan.
Also scripture says that we must be greater than the prophests of old inorder to get into heaven. For example no-one was wiser than solomon ever before him, during his life time, and the Bible says none shall come after him that is as wise. But scripture also teaches that Jesus is wiser than Solomon. How can that be? Answer: because as a paradox, not only is Jesus the seed of God, the son of God, but Jesus is God. But in general I think we need to be as righteous as the prophests of old. Though I would suppose, as the Bible suggests, that Noah, Job, and Daniel were about the three most righteous or three of the most righteous.
I differ in opinion from the charasmatic denominations on the matter of miracles. Anything other than salvation, is classified as "signs and wonders" and that is always spoken of in the Bible in the context of satanic activity, of the last days when people are worshiping the antichrist, thinking they are worshiping Christ.

Jesus' main work involved the preaching work. Jehovah's Witnesses spread the Bible's message in 235 land around the world. Their principle publication, The Watchtower, comes in 140 languages.

So true.
The Lord showed me that the Christian Church today is the "Valley of Dead Bone" from Ezekiel's vision. It is dead.
The "great works" will not happen until the "Out Pouring of the Spirit" is released. This is a future event. It is in the Bible Code. The Prophet Joel spoke about it.
In Ezekiel's Vision, the dead bones come to life to form "an exceedingly great army". This will be a "Spiritual Army", and their weapon will be their song, a special Supernatural vibratory frequency. This is how the walls of Jericho fell.

The scripture refers to the preaching of God's Kingdom and it is being done by Jehovah's Witnesses today on a much larger scale than it was in Jesus' day.

When Jesus went to his hometown..he couldn't perform many miracles there because of their unbelief...matthew chapter 13: verses 53-58. or mark chapter 6: verses 1-6.
Perhaps this is why..or perhaps..not many are reported....i personally have seen and heard of many amazing miracles!

Well, combined perhaps they have. But I see your point. In some way, we are not living up to the fulness of what we are supposed to, piglet. As a 2 billion membered body, we were to do more than his one body. We have evangelized more, and many miravles performed....but you have a great point and I am not gonna deny it.
Blessings

I've asked this question many times. (not on yahoo) but I have not received a satisfying answer.
I don't have the answer....but I know there is a strong implication that we are all capable of doing great things.

No. The verse says "works" not miracles.
Jesus administers to the Jews. Christians to the world.
What more do you want?

some do great stuff without evidence... maybe because of all the hysteria, only the people at church see the miracle...
