Do low fat diets work? Has it worked for anyone?

Any diets work if you eat less calories than you expend.

With any diet, low carb, low fat, low sugar - they all have to be mindful of calories. So its best to go for a low calorie diet and just eat what you want. Probably a 1200 (lowest you can "safely" go) to 1500 calorie diet would work best.

It is a simplistic fallacy that dietary fat makes you fat. In truth, it is the total number of calories consumed, versus the total number of calories metabolized, which determines the amount of body fat. The most fattening foods are actually those high in carbohydrates and sugar. Fats are metabolized more slowly than carbohydrates, so they tend to be less fattening. For that reason, nuts are less fattening than candy, even though nuts contain a lot of fat and candy contains practically none.
