we held our pups right after they were born, just don't spend too much time holding them because then they could get sick but a few minutes won't hurt

I would think that you could as long as you did it slowly and of course gently. If it upsets the mother I would stop. I have seen people (family members) hold pups only a couple of days old. And yes puppies are always cute.

I dunno how you have kept from doing it for this long! I have always been right in there the day of, at the birth, checking them out. Now that it has been so long Mom might be so protective she won't let you.
Honestly, unless you are talking about handling them ala Paris Hilton and using it as a teeny weeny accessory there is no reason you cannot handle them the day of.
The one thing you need to remember however is Mom must LET you. It does not good to aggravate Mom, she might move them and be too doggone nervous to care for them if you force her into letting you handle them. If she growls when you try to pick them up, that's ok, but if you growls and lunges back away and leave her for a bit. Try again when she has been calm for a few hours and keep trying until she lets you hold them.
Good luck and congrats!

Whenever you like and the mother will let you. Handling the puppies from a young age is the best way to socialize them.

well i hold my pups before they are all the way out of the mother ! lol... yes you can hold them now ...and a lot ! take care not to let them get cold... i would not let any one but family hold them till 8 weeks old. in case they catch something from people that can make them sick.

You can...but first pet the mother just to remind her that you are affectionate then take her pup and caress it ...see if this helps !

You should hold them the first day they are born. You should have rubbed them awake. What the heck have you been doing?
