I don't think that there is a certain reason for a muslim to be afraid to travel to Italy.
Italy is a very democratic country with great history and wonderful places to visit (I'm not Italian).

well reading the other posts my asnwer may seem silly.... i didn't even think of you being afraid of coming.... here are my initial thoughts....

if you enjoy seeing amazing works of art & history and are not offended by Christianity -- you will LOVE it. there are some other things to see - the trevi fount, spanish steps and the piazza's but the primary reason people go to Rome is for the art, history and Catholic/Christian faith. some places you will have to be searched -- i was too and i went when JP2 (Polish pope) was in office and was Polish - in other words - don't take offense if this happens.

Just realize that this is the seat of the Roman Catholic faith and where much of the history of Christianity is preserved. if you are "okay with this" as a spot to visit -- spend a good 5-6 days to take it all in. if you're up for more the non religious aspect -- 2 days would be fine -- the spanish steps, walking around, the pantheon, collisium & forum.

i hope you enjoy!!!

-- -- on the part about being "afraid" i hope you wouldn't be afraid to go anywhere. realize some people may look at you in your attire if you dress fully covered - but they were looking at me too in what i was wearing - full scarf head covering and glasses becuase i was so cold ; ) i will only say this -- walk with a smile or slight smile on your face - head up and enjoying your visit. i do that no matter where i am or in what siutation. i've had to walk as a single female through some tough areas and when i do so, in the above mentioned manner -- no one bothers me!! i'm really not thinking that's what you were questioning but just in case!

Italy is mainly a catholic country, so you will definitely stick out. That being said, last time i was in Italy i saw many muslims there, but saw the same amount of people looking at them thinking they were planning to blow up the vatican......

Either way, go where you want and dont look back.

Muslims have a lot more freedom than christians. You are free and welcome in any western country with hatred targetted only from a minorirty.

Maybe the problem is that muslims should think about us catholics etc being welcomed into there countries. That is always forgotten and it is not 1 way traffic i doubt there is any tollerance for us after all europeans approve the buildings of mosques etc but imagine a church being allowed in a muslim country ? No! so i should stop worrying and enjoy this world.

My best freind is muslim, she is even wearing a scarf on her hair. We travelled to London, Paris, Koeln and everywhere we had the right to visit all places and we were treated very respectfull and equal to everybody else.

Where did you get this thaught you might be treated bad or differently because of your religion? You have the right as any one else to do anything you want as long as you respect yourself and anyone else.

Regarding your visit to Italy, i have never been there before, but from what i heard from my freinds it is worth visiting. I hope you enjoy your time there.

I guess I should have more problems to visit yr country (whichever is) as a Christian than you'll have to visit Italy being a Muslim.
You just could have problems with us if you don't come in peace otherwise don't be scared,we are an hospitable and very tolerant people.

you can visit anywhere you want....dont think tht bcs you r muslim, you have only certain places to visit....thts not right man, we are all equal...just bcs a minority group of people hates muslims doesnt mean everyone hates muslim...thts all in our heads...fear....

yOU HAVE THE FULL RIGHT TO VISIT ANY PLACE YOU WANT...THIS IS A DEMOCRACY AGE...WE ARE ALL FREE....

We are equal, no matter wht race, color, religion we belong to....WE ARE EQUAL
