HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE FOR TAX REBATES TAKE TO BE RELEASED AFTER BEING FILED?! People say that it usually takes a week after it is filed and or after the due date has been set. So why isn't alot of the 2004 and 2005 rebates out yet? Is there a way for the people to be compensated for this delay?, after all we the people do get penalized for filing late.

Refunds are issued about 4 to 6 weeks after filing. If you file late then this may be longer. All 2004 and 2005 refunds were mailed a long time ago - unless you filed in the past 30 days. The IRS is holding a lot of refund checks that were returned by the post office as undeliverable. If you changed your address since filing be sure the post office is forwarding your mail.

If you are referring to income tax REFUNDS, call 1-800-TAX-1040 to inquire about the status of your refund. There is no such thing as a tax REBATE in the US unless congress passes a special bill. This was not done in either 2004 or 2005. The IRS rarely does anything in one week.
