I do accept the five points of Calvinism because I belive they are taught in Scripture. I am not a Hyper-Calvinist, I agree with C H Spurgeon, John Gill ect if thats helps to explain.

I would like to add for those who don't like John Calvin, the doctrines of Grace was taught by Paul long before Calvin.

How people can deny predestination is beyond me, maybe it's just too hard for people to accept that God might be more powerful than them. It's not puppet-on-a-string theology at all, people just extrapolate it that way without any real investigation.

Hyper-Calvinism has to do with a predestination to Hell, which is again not what Calvinism teaches, it's just more extrapolation of what's not in the Bible at all.

But neither is free will.

Hyper-calvinism? That is a new way of saying it. But the reasoning behind predestination is simple. It was Augustine who first broached the subject. If God is truly omnipotent than everything transpires according to His plan. So if a human could, through their own actions, affect the outcome of God's plan that would make him more powerful than God, which would be a contridiction. Therefore, according to the calvinists and many other reformed christians, our salvation is predetermined by God's plan, and man is powerless to change this.
