I like to think of it like this: You place a bunch of hot coals together in the fire and they all glow brightly and share their heat with each other. Add more coals to it and the fire becomes stronger. If you remove a coal and set it aside, it will lose its heat and become cold and dark. Yet, if you return it back to the fire it can once again become bright and warm.
Likewise, when a person leaves church, they no longer enjoy the fellowship of other believers, they lose the opportunity to learn new insights and increase their gospel knowledge, and they give up the opportunity to share their own testimony with those who could otherwise benefit from hearing it.

You're right, you don't need to go to be 'spiritual'. The Bible tells us to go; you only need to go to be saved. ALTHOUGH, Church doesn't mean what most idiots think it means. A Church is simply a group of people with like faith. The bible also tells us to study it, in order to show ourselves approved by God.
I think that when you enter a Church and it looks like a mansion, that is a clear sign that you are NOT in the right place. It is popular these days for people to 'pick and choose' what they beleive and do. That's why the bible also says that many will be called and FEW will be chosen. It's not an easy path, and most won't make it; just look around, these attitudes are everywhere.
Read the last verse in the Bible, you'll see what I mean about picking and choosing.

I am LDS, Mormon.
I like to go to church, partly to FEEL the spirit...that is part of the reason I go to the temple too, I can feel the spirit there like no where else, it is different.
We also attend church because it is a commandment, it is part of keeping the sabbath day holy to me, we learn, we aren't perfect and therefore need constant reminders of His love for us, the need for repentance and to basically learn of Christ's teachings. We also go to partake of the sacrament each week, which is a renewal of our baptismal covenants, that is very important.
I beleive there is good in all (Christian) religions...they all just have bits and pieces though and the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints holds ALL the truths, principles, and Priesthood authority for the building up of the Kingdom of God.

Nice prejudgements that all of the branches of Christianity think they are right and feel church is the main part. You can go to church but be the most cruel person in the world. Or you could occasionally go and be the most spiritually intune person your family knows. It really depends. Also you don't I say don't need to go to church to be spiritual though it is advised to celebrate sacraments and such.

I don't even think you have to be spiritual. I am not quite a 100% atheist. Someone FINALLY convinced me to be agnostic, saying isn't it arrogant to act like you know nothing's out there, when you yourself are so insignificant?
I don't go to any church or religion. But strangely I do like to read the Bible and especially enjoy the words attributed to Jesus. I just wish I were there to see what really happened.
Good question though. :D

I understand sister.
I only go when I feel called to. Never out of obligation. I havent gone in almost a year and I am born again.
I am going this weekend for the first time, as I feel called back.
I fellowship with believers as the Bible says, but it does not always needs to be done at church. If your spirit is ok and you know G-d, you dont need any validation on this.
Bless you

It is not about spirituality. It is about the relationship that you have with the MOST HIGH GOD through Jesus. The church that is right is the one with no traditions. The true Church serves God in spirit and in truth. Church is a good place to learn more and to help you to grow in the LORD. It helps you to strengthen your relationship with God.

God did say:
Heb 10:24-25
24 And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds. 25 Let us not give up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but let us encourage one another-and all the more as you see the Day approaching.
(from New International Version)
If you know God very well, are strong in your faith, a very good person who has no problems, and are studying His word on your own, maybe you don't need to go

I go to church to worship the Lord amongst my peers no one forces me to. For me it's simple, it's something positive to do with my time, and I want to raise my children in church. I mean when I was living in the way of the world I went to the club and gave The Ying Yang Twins, and vodka and coke my time, which brought me nothing positive. So now that I live for God I feel the need to give God my time, by going and worshiping him with others who love him the way I do.

You don't need to go to church, but your goal should be to have a relationship with God, not to just be "spiritual"....the Devil himself is "spiritual". Of what value is that?
