My opinion is: no. I really don't like skinny models. Also, I don't like really obese people. Neither are healthy and could sustain life if it were not for a really invasive pop culture. IMHO.

You may use my opinion. And may I add I have a really healthy appearance and I'm able-bodied.

Most Definitely.

But, it isn't anything that is going to change - the image or me. Being healthy and happy is the most important. I think society is focusing on health just as much as they are image. When the two "collide", I think you will find that the perfect body image is going to be a toned body - weight/height appropriate - unnatural tans (as they are healthier).

The point is, and I am certain I am not alone, regardless if I shed the 30 lbs., I'm still going to be 5'2" - that is something that cannot be changed or altered, no matter how good plastic surgeons are. *smile*

Acceptance of who you are and the desire to be healthy, happy and active will bring out the most beautiful image in anyone. It also makes for great skin!

My mother has an eating disorder and has had all her life. Some disorders go beyond eating - some have OCD and some have esteem issues, as examples. They believe others are better than them beyond that of just their body; but their body (weight) is the one thing they believe they can control.

Firsty, Yes you may use my answer in you paper if its useful 2 u.

Images in magazines/the media dont really bother me, I mean i hate seeing annorexic models gracing the pages of my favourite magazines, but I dont let it get to me. I know that they are either not healthy or so airbrushed you wouldnt recognize them if you fell over them in the street. They are images on a piece of paper and should not have the power to intimidate anyone. Also many women magazines are overhauling thier images and are putting models of all ages and sizes in their pages which i find to be reassuring that the media are acknowledging we as women (and men) come in all shapes and sizes and dont drop off the planet after 35!
However, i do think the media can have a very strong affect on many young girls and leave them feeling uncomfortable about who they are. The media isnt really the only one to blame, they just put the idea out there its the people we see everyday, the people around us who enforce the feeling 'of not being good enough' making us feel uncomfortable being ourselves.

I don't really feel comfortable. Being 25 now, I still find myself comparing myself and wishing I was thinner like some of the models in the magazines and on tv. It's not so much how other people perceive me, it's how I feel about myself that matters. If I were thinner, I feel my self-confidence would be up therefore motivating me to conquer anything I put my mind to.

I'venever had an eating disorder so to speak, but I have known people who have. It's a tough thing to overcome.

Feel free to use anything I said in your paper.

Well when I see all those "glorious" celebrities in glossy magazines I only tell myself that in spite of all their make-up and money they are ugly, badly dressed and that my wife and myself we are much more elegant, classy and hansome. I would not invite 80% of them to a dinner party at my home, I would be embarrassed by their lack of good manners, their stupidity and their ignorance. My nightmare at some stage was to be at the same dinner party as Mr. Silvester Stalone... Now it is Britney Spears....
