Yes, it can be just as bad, or even worse than, a physical illness.

Some mental illnesses are related to chemical deficiencies. If the person takes the right supplement, the mental illness goes away. If they stop taking the supplement, the illness can come back. so in that case, the mental illness has a physical cause - so I guess you could say it is a physical illness, in a way.

Yes mental illness is just as bad as physical illnesses. One can have physical symptoms from a mental illness. Where some physical illnesses can and will get better, the best you can expect with a mental illness is to get it under control with medications. Some never get relief from all symptoms, or can have a relapse at any time, even if they stay on their meds. A person with Bi Polar can still have a manic episode or get very depressed or still experience massive ups and downs on meds.

Hi! A mental illness is a brain illness which really makes it a physical illness too. The brain is controlling everything so if the brain is ill, the person is very ill. Not enough credit is given to the brain and more people need to accept mental illness as a brain disorder. Best of luck to you.
