Earlier I asked a lengthy quesiton in the pregnancy forum about my story but I think maybe I should have come straight to the point. Has anyone had gastric bypass surgery? Was it helpful/effective for you in battling obesity? Would you do it again? I am currently pregnant with my second child (both children will be 14 months apart in age). I have been morbidly obese since puberty and both of my parents are exactly the same and have heart disease, diabetes, and health problems from weight. I am lucky that I haven't developed any of it and plan to have this procedure a year or so after I have this baby (May 2008). So if you have any advice or experience with this procedue please share.

This will be my last pregnancy and our family is complete which is why I considered having the procedure.

Yes, I've had it and I use great caution in recommending it. It does work IF you know that it is not a cure-all for obesity. It is only a jump start, especially for people in a high risk category such as diabetes, sleep apnea, hypertension and heart disease. It will help you lose weight rather fast, but you MUST watch what you eat and adhere to a strict (Dr. recommended) eating program. Should you begin to go back to old eating patterns, you will stretch the pouch and be back at square one. Exercise is essential for success with this surgery. You have to be psychologically prepared for a major life change.

My answer to the question you deleted, Feel free to delete it, I just wantedto let you know..
Wow, That doctor is horrible.
I'm in my second pregnancy and while I am not overweight, I am a little on the heavy side. Before I found out I was pregnant, I was dieting and excercizing, and while I was losing weight, I was doing it healthily (is that even a word? lol) Basically all you can do is eat healthy, go for short walks (even 5 mins a day helps) cut down on your take aways (pizza, chinese, all the good stuff)
Try to focus on the good things in your life. you have a husband who obviously loves you, and soon (about the same time as me too.. lol) you're going to have two wonderful children.
Just remember, you're pregnant. You shouldn;t have to stress about stuff like this. Don't go all out and pig out, watch what you eat, but remember to -eat-.
Oh, also it is very normal to gain about 14kg (30 lbs) during a pregnancy, Most of this is baby and fluid weight. You'd think it would dissapear when the baby is born, but it hardly does, lol!
Like I was saying, it;s normal to be self concious when you're pregnant, with your body changing constantly. I also know what it's like when people look at your growing belly and give you that -look- It makes you want to scream "I'm not just fat, I'm 6 months pregnant!"

In response to this question. I have heard that Lap band surgery is very affective, if a little painful. but there can be risks if you have it, then fall pregnant. It can always be removed though, Usually with permenant results.
I wish you the very best of luck (not just in losing weight, but being happy)

Weight loss surgery-like gastric bypass /lap band surgery / stomach stapling and gastrectomy have become very common and very safe now. My cousin got her Roux-en-Y gastric bypass surgery in India. She has lost more than 65 lbs in 5 months and is very happy with the results. The price for obesity surgery is very less in India. My cousin just paid 25% of the cost she was quoted in America. She got her surgery from a company called Forerunners Healthcare.

Forerunners Healthcare is very famous in India. I read a lot about them in the Newspapers and magazines. I have read a lot of their patient stories also. They arrange financing for USA, Canadian, UK and other international patients who plan to have surgery abroad for low cost, as bariatric surgery and weight loss surgery is not covered by insurance. They also have photos pasted of their International patients. You can checkout their website. There are huge cost savings. As a doctor I personally believe that your Obesity surgery can be easily handled in India, as the quality of healthcare available In India is simply best in the world. The surgeons are USA/UK trained and facilities are 5 star.

Hope this helps.
