I have a Canon Rebel EOS I believe it is called, it is fairly new, and I want to learn to do double exposures, but if the film advances on its own, is is possible to combine images? I dont want to just take digital pictures and edit it, I like film.

yes my EOS50Eqd, you go to the button on the back above the film rewind button, go until you find one that has a transparent square over a white square, vice versa, then using the main control dial, you set how many exposures you want to do on that frame, then press the shutter button , on mine you can do up to 9 exposures on the same frame.

I don't think so. You'd have to somehow bypass the film advance. If there is a way, it would probably be mentioned in your manual.

Alternatively, you could just scan the film and Photoshop them together as layers.

I did think of another possible way. Set your exposure to bulb, take your first exposure, making sure to under-expose it. Then immediately place your lens cap or something else to block out the lens, while you recompose your picture. Then remove the cover and continue your picture, underexposing again. It would be one shot, so you would need a lot of trial and error, and probably a very small aperture. Might be easier to do digitally, since trial and error usually means using up a lot of film.

Here's a forum that discusses the issue:

hi , for any manual film camera there is a possibility of doble exposure. and i believe in auto cameras also tht option will b there. plz go tjrough the camera manual carefully. if the option is not there there is a posibility of doing a double exposure.
1. after clicking single exposure rewind the film,
2. with film picker u take out the film end again an relode it in ur camera ,
3. close the lens cap n put the cam on f/22 go on clicking until the frame on which u wan do double exposure.
4. after selecting the frame u wan to do double, exposure.
open the cap and sewlect the exposure and click it.
5. if u wan make multipul exposures repit it again..

not all cameras will provide help to attempt this. My previous guide Minolta gained't enable me to. when I push the shutter button it gained't function back until eventually I advance the movie to the subsequent body. Even my Minolta 7000 autofocus digicam gained't do different exposures. The Canon rebellion I had ought to do as a lot as 9 exposures on one body and it turned right into a placing that you used. movie shooters used to attempt this variety of ingredient contained in the darkish room so it wasn't a characteristic on the cameras. It grew to develop right into a characteristic as a gimmick i think.

Look up bracketing in the manuel. I think that is the program you want to use on your camera. I may be wrong but I think it's bracketing.
