i would suggest meeting with the teachers to get their guidance. they should be able to work with you to give him the help he needs in a more timely manner. they should be glad you care so much & be really willing. also, meeting with any special needs teachers for tips can help as well.

can the teachers help give you items ahead of time so that you can work on things on the weekends when you have more time? (assuming you have a monday-friday job)

I have great sympathy for you. Your concern is well understood. But do not worry at all !! It can be done.

First thing..

Do not think that your son is a slow learner and all that, unless he has been declared as "retarded" by a registered practicing psychiatrics OR at least by a registered MBBS practitioner. If it is a case like that, the same people will direct your son to a proper school where specialized teaching is done profesionally. But if it is not so, believe that he is perfectly normal. If you still have doubts, please go to doctors and ask your suspicions.

Now assuming that he is normal, let me suggest you Second thing.

You have only two hours okay ? I suggest, you will not use the hours to actually "teach" him anything !!!! Instead you use these two hours to "motivate" the child for studying various things. He is in 4th. He requires a lot many things to know from parents. Keep talking to him. Play with him, for example, puzzles of numbers, so that, while you are on your work, he will keep at such things. Sing with him poems. These things will keep on reverberating in his mind, while you are away. Give him picturesque books of stories and/or study material. In short provide him such things that will improve his knowledge base and utilize his thinking abilities continuously for 8 hours.

While doing this, allways keep asking yourself and try to remember how you, yourself in your childhood, learnt the things. And repeat that, because he owns the same genes stock.

Don't expect immediate results. Childrens' developments are not predictable and comparable. Different flowers bloom in different seasons. Children are now slo learners, we expect them to be quick to grasp. Dont estimate the development of the child by the grades he gets, but see yourself how he behaves in a group of children of same age. If he is dumb, as you think, others will avoid him, if others are following him and he is leading them, he is really good !! At this stage grades do not count.

Last thing, do not feel "sorry" in the least, that you have to work and can not attend the child for 24 hours. All the time in the past history of evolution, females are continuously working, and they have to. It is a very false notion that woman's place in indoors. As per Mother Nature's law, only while they are breast feeding they should be "around the home" that is all.

This may get lengthy but I'll try to keep it short. I am a mother of 3 and I have two sisters with two children each. My daughters get straight A's in school while my sisters' children have great trouble. I am currently home schooling my 13 year old nephew because he was doing so poorly. He is now doing very well. I applaud you for asking for opinions. The "key" is to make it fun. My 5 year old niece is in a special class because she is having trouble grasping concepts and writing. I've been getting her after school for a couple of months now and she begs me to give her homework to do. She thinks it's fun .... not work. If you don't have time to create work sheets of your own then you can get work books from places like Walmart, Kmart, Target, etc. If he is having a difficult time with numbers I suggest playing a card game of War. Divide the cards up equally and both turn cards over at the same time. Say aloud what the value of your card is and have him do the same. Then have him determine who has the highest or lowest card. Who ever has the highest gets to keep both of them, putting them in a separate pile. When you are both at the end of your pile count the cards you've won and who ever has the highest amount of cards wins. Playing a simple fun game like that can help him learn the value and sequence of numbers. Reading a bed time story (just a short one) every night will really improve identifying letters and words. He'll be a much more fluent reader. My daughters learned fractions around 3 years old because I would teach them when ever we had pizza. It is true that the more we teach them at home ... the easier time they will have at school. I hope I have not jumped around to much and have touched the topics that interest you. If you'd like to contact me for more ideas I'd be happy to help. Good luck and God bless!

hi..

it seems that you have hectic working hours and not able to concentrate or ur son. you need to understand and analyse one thing that why he is slow learner? what r ur family conditions?, friends around. elder's beheavour etc.,

Donot come to a conclusion that ur son is slow learner. Donot compare him with other children. Then in future they also can compare the parental status.

Donot expect him to raise to ur level. Godown to his level and make him understand the subject not in regular way but try in different way. Consult any child psycriatist.
He will raise to ur level.

Can you afford to hire a tutor for your son? That could be an option.

2 previous women outdoors a eating place. One previous woman says to the different "Did you come on the bus?" to which the different one spoke back "definite, yet I made it look like a stroke." Your shaggy dog tale jogged my memory of this one.. V. humorous.
