It is used as an expletive to infer sarcastic despair, or surprise. Not as a swear word. You don't call someone a 'Jesus Christ' do you now?
And more often than not you want to ban everything to do with Jesus Christ when used in a Biblical way? Wouldn't that make reading the Bible a very difficult task?!

The same reason God! is a profanity. It is profane. Nothing is banned by the government except to separate church and state which is part of the U.S.A. constitution. Now things on here are often banned by complaints to Yahoo but it is their web sight their privilege. Kisses Betty.

There is a much greater significance in Jesus being the "Bright Morning Star" and a far lesser significance in Lucifer who was once a "shining star". Stars can be angels, kings, leaders, but the One who is the Bright Star stands out of the rest who are less significant. It is the Lamp in Revelation 21:23 who will shine in the Temple as God's Eternal Light! Archangels may by shiny, but they are not the Bright Morning Star who is the everlasting Light of men in John 1:4-5!

Profanity is used to express ignorance of more suitable expressions and for shock value to get a reaction.
When used as a Biblical word, "Jesus" challenges us and demands a decision of faith - yea or nay. That is dangerous to many people.

Hmmm. It is banned as profanity on the airwaves and banned from standing in the form of a crucifix or nativity scene on the public square. However, it is allowed on church property. (No one has EVER proposed banning Christianity from church property.)
I think you are trying to assert Christian privilege because it is the dominant religion. That is the same thing as promoting theocracy. And I will oppose that with every fiber of my being.

the same reason that the French say things like Cup of Christ, and the Irish say Mary Morther of God, when they have a moment of wanting to curse. Why do you say it is a phrase of profanity, isn't it really helping someone from being profane?

Because we have become a sinful society, God is the ultimate good, and many people wish to try to profane that which is good.

On time on Saturday Night Live, they did a skit on when God made human genitalia. Supposedly He put in lots of nerves --- extra, extra, extra. So we would call His name when we were excited.
I guess "Lord", "G.D." and "Holy Sh!t" are examples of times when ppl exclaim in vain. Maybe there's some truth to the SNL skit.

JESUS CHRIST is the most powerful name on earth.
At his Holy name even the demons tremble.
One day every knee shall bow every tongue shall confess that JESUS CHRIST IS LORD
