Someone hit my male cat who lives outside about 2 weeks ago. He had just enough strength to come and die in his own yard. I am deeply saddened by this. I have had him since he was 8 weeks old. I know I will never fully get over it but what are some good ways to handle it better?

Losing a pet is hard, and only time will heal your sadness. I love my pets like they are my own children, and I know I would be devastated if I lost them to anything. Maybe it would help to think about all of the good times you shared, and remember all of the happiness that he brought you. Take comfort in knowing that you too brought him happiness in the time he was able to be with you. Although he was taken, you provided him with love while he was alive. He'll always be in your heart, and you'll never forget him. It's not going to be easy, so just go through the normal stages of grief, you'll miss him forever, but with time you'll feel better.

I've had cats to live to be 18 and loved them Deeply!!!! There isn't an easy way to forget.........only time lessens the hurt.

When it's the right time, another pet helps a lot, but thats something only you can decide. Some people get another pet rather soon and some need time. There are plenty of kittens and cats that need good homes. Best wishes.

I'm sorry for your loss. I know it sounds cliche, but they say time heals all wounds. One of my furbabies passed away a couple of months ago. I don't cry anymore, but I still think of my Mee-Yao girl. Know that your little furbaby had a good life because he was so loved by you. When you are ready, you might think of doing some kind of memorial. I made a garden stone for Mee-Yao and just last week put up a picture of her (I had to take them all down when it first happened). I also used a website called chatkitty.com. They have a grief board and a memorial board. The people on the site were so amazingly supportive. My thoughts are with you.

There is no easy way to get over an animal. Cry and talk to someone about it. You will go through the same grief series as someone human who has died. There is really no way to get around it. In a few months think about getting another animal. It is better to have had your pet than never to have had him at all. Also, think about the good times you had with him. It really makes me sad about your cat. I know you're pain. This summer when it was so hot, my 2 cats suddenly went away. I put signs up everywhere in stores. One lady called and said she spotted one of our cats. We ran out there to the country and called for the cats for days. One day she called and said there was a dead cat in her yard. We went to look at it and we thought it was our cat and buried her in the back yard. 2 weeks later both cats showed up. They were caught in a garage. But when I thought they were dead, I cried and cried.

Hi there...first I would like to offer my condolences. Losing our companions is the most difficult and it feels like a part of our soul has been stolen. It is never easy at first, but time truly does help heal and bandage some of the hurt.

Here's the Rainbow Bridge Poem which helps me remember why life is so precious:
Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.
When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge. There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.

All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor. Those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by. The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.
They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent. His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.

You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.

Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....

Only TIME will alleviate the grief of losing a beloved pet. The first couple of weeks is the worse when you think and remember. Try to be around people when the sadness grabs you. The sympathy and understanding of others will comfort you. Try to be busy. Listen to music. Think of your pet forever young waiting for you by the Rainbow Bridge.

those poems continually have me in tears in spite of the indisputable fact that i hit upon it helps with the grief and loosing a canines is continually extraordinarily confusing. i ought to under no circumstances attempt to interchange a canines because it isn't plausible no 2 dogs will ever be a similar, you may also see something that reminds you of your previous pal in spite of the indisputable fact that the hot canines is different and also you're going to adore that canines for who they are. i do not have any difficulty bonding with dogs, i imagine the bond is rather major because it helps plenty with practise and so on. I have different dogs so that they convenience me and help plenty, and that i wait until eventually i'm waiting for bringing homestead yet another canines. Loosing a canines is the worst ingredient about possessing dogs, they have such short lives so i attempt to make each day for my dogs a sturdy chuffed day.

I am so sorry about your kitty. My chihuahua holly just died(a coyote attacked her), and i think the way i have been getting over her is thinking on a positive note. I will tell myself that Holly is in a happier place, and now nothing can hurt her. I take out photos of her frequently, and think of all of our happy times together. You will be ok in the end, but you will heal. Sorry, though.

well, you can't just get over it. time heals. you are supposed to be sad. that is normal! it will just take a while. it is never easy. try writing about how you feel and about him. dealing with the feelings and talking to a close friend will help you to heal.

when you feel you are ready, i suggest adopting a new pet if you want another one.
