Wow, 30 in a 25? That cop must have been in a bad mood or something.

To answer your question though, your ticket should show the fine amount. This is for people that want to avoid going to court and just admit guilt by mailing in the fine.

Low end speeding tickets usually run about $10.00 for each MPH over the limit. Figure about $50.00.

But consider the possible increase in your insurance premiums; that could run several hundred over the next 3 years. Your insurance agent can give you a pretty close estimate on that.

Then compare that to the cost of hiring an attorney to plead it down to a non-moving violation. At 5 over, that shouldn't be too expensive and will probaby be a LOT less than the insurance hit.

What? A cop pulled you over for going 5mph over the speed limit?? That's pretty much unheard of, around here.

Anyway, I'm not from California.. but a ticket for that speed would probably cost you around $50 and 2 points on your license. However, you could plead "not guilty" in court, and fight your case based on a technicality. If you do this, you'll have a court date rescheduled within the next month or two (depending on how busy they are). Once you do this, either one of two things will happen.
A) You can call this out as a technicality if the officer used the "radar" or "Pacing" method to track your speed. (Pacing is when an officer follows you, and simply estimates your speed). These methods have a "lean" of +/- 3mph. So, the judge will most likely throw this out, seeing as "technically" you were only speeding by 2mph.. which is no grounds for a cop to really pull you over in the first place.
B) The rescheduled court date -may- take place on a date that the officer who pulled you over is on-duty. If the officer is on-duty, that means he/she can't fight your case. If he/she isn't there to fight the case, the judgement is automatically ruled in your favor. (As long as you point out the said technicality).

Or, you could always just cough up the $50. Whatever works for you.

Good Luck!

I would imagine $100 to $200. what people used to consider "minor violations" are becoming a major financial penalty. this is done to deter drivers from breaking the law.
